Fashion Blog: It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month, How Can You Wear Pink?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Suffolk chapter.

If you’re anything like me, your wardrobe hasn’t seen much pink since eighth grade. This would be totally fine, except October is breast cancer awareness month, meaning that you’re expected to wear pink! There’s no need to panic though; there are endless ways to incorporate pink into any outfit without actually wearing pink.

Perhaps the best way to include pink into an outfit is by accessorizing. Ladies love to accessorize, from their headbands, to their belts, to their tights. Accessorizing is also a great way to recycle an already worn dress or outfit to make it look fresh. Plus, it’ll save you money! And who doesn’t love an extra few dollars in their pocket? Thanks to the cooler weather, accessorizing is even easier!

1.) Possibly the simplest way to bring a pink accessory into your outfit is by throwing on a scarf. Not only is a scarf cute, but with the descending temperatures, a scarf is practical. You can dress a scarf down with jeans, boots, and a cute top, but you can also dress it up, which is harder, but not impossible! Paired with the right LBD, a scarf could totally pull an outfit together.

2.) Another cold weather favorite, but maybe less comfortable, are tights. We all know the annoying feeling of our tights not fitting just right, so many of us avoid them at all costs. But let me tell you, it is worth it to search for a pair that is the perfect fit! Pink tights with any black dress or skirt will not only show your breast cancer support, but they can also add a pop of color to an otherwise boring outfit.

3.) Tired of using the same cross body bag when you go out every weekend? If so, don’t be afraid to switch it up. It takes no time at all to convert your phone, lipstick, ID, and whatever else you may carry with you over to another bag… so go for it! Trade in your typical bag for a more fun and flirty pink bag like the ones above!

4.) They say diamonds are a girl’s best friend, but I say shoes are a girl’s best friend! Can we all agree that the right pair of heels can make you feel like you’re stepping onto the runway? Slipping into a pair of pink shoes will not only make you feel great, but also look fabulous.

5.) Now, this one may not be for everyone; I know I could never rock a bow in my hair. But some ladies can. And if you can, you should! If you’re someone who can pull off wearing statement hair accessories then this is the best way to include pink in your outfit.

6.) Perhaps a subtler way to wear pink without wearing it is to throw on some pink jewelry. Pink jewelry is the ultimate solution for the girl who may not like pink, because pink earrings or a pink necklace won’t be overpowering. Plus, bangles and a statement necklace is a fun way to accessorize!

7.) Other fun and awesome alternatives to actually wearing pink are pink hair, make-up, and nails! The best part of getting ready is actually doing your make-up and hair, so why not trade your neutrals for pink? Or, if you’re braver, you could add a little bit of pink dye to your hair. The less bold option would be pink nail polish. The possibilities are endless!

Wearing pink without actually wearing pink is much simpler than it seems. Your best bet is to accessorize, accessorize, and accessorize some more. It’s a great month to break out the pink and show your breast cancer awareness support, so have fun with it!
