If you grew up as a 90s kid (yes, all of you born after the year 2000 can be apart of this too), then you probably remember all of the spooktacular, mystifying, and hilarious Halloween episodes of your favorite childhood sitcoms. Each October, it seemed like nearly every single one of these popular 90s sitcoms had a Halloween themed episode worked into their current season like clockwork. It just wasn’t Halloween time if you didn’t spend your weekends as a kid anxiously awaiting to see the frightening fate of one of your beloved sitcom characters, or wondering what crazy costumes they would appear in this year. Spooky season always produced the most memorable and enjoyable episodes of these shows. So, I have compiled a list of the top five “best Halloween episodes of your favorite 90s shows” below to ensure that you all make the most of this magical month.

Shawn Hunter truly was the original “e-boy” and nobody can convince me otherwise. Or should I say the original e-vil boy? Out of all the Halloween episodes of all the 90s sitcoms, this one still remains top of my list and hands down has to be one of the best Halloween episodes a show ever made. No other Halloween episode from any other show manages to evoke both laughter and fear quite like this masterpiece. I mean, how could you expect anything less when there’s a masked killer on the loose at John Adams High school?

Boy Meets World: “The Witches of Pennbrook”

DJ Tanner, Sabrina Spellman, and Eric Matthews- oh my! Once again, the writers of Boy Meets World outdid themselves with yet another mystifying Halloween episode. Only this time instead of masked killers attempting to kill students, it’s college aged witches who look like DJ Tanner trying to kill the Hunter boys. This episode surely doesn’t get quite the recognition that it deserves in all honesty, but if you are a lover of all things “witchy” and “magical”, then this episode is right up your alley. It is also quite possibly the most “1997” thing you will ever witness as an adult in 2019, and will bring you right back to the good old days when everyone wanted to be that one goth girl who just so happened to be a witch.

Sabrina the Teenage Witch:”Good Will Haunting”
“I’m Molly Dolly, and I’m gonna get you”. It has been over twenty years since this episode of “Sabrina the Teenage Witch” aired in 1998, and the sheer thought of Molly Dolly, or mention of this episode sends shivers down the spines of former nineties’ kids. That talking doll scared and scarred young nineties kids everywhere from Halloween 1998 into the entire first week of November. Molly Dolly definitely made sure that none of us ever even thought about ditching our 500 year old aunt’s birthday party to hang out with our friends ever again.

Family Matters: “Stevil”

Clearly, the late nineties’ sitcoms had a fascination with bringing inanimate objects to life in their Halloween themed episodes, and Family Matters took that concept a little too seriously. They truly ran with it full speed ahead, when the showed introduced the world to Stevil, Urkel’s evil ventriloquist dummy. Most of us probably blocked this episode from our brains as children because Stevil was just too creepy, and just too real. He even would make Molly Dolly quake in her plastic boots honestly. There’s a reason why the episode had to have a ‘viewer warning’ at the beginning of it. Even though the beloved sitcom was considered a family friendly show, Stevil was not, and this episode still goes down in history as possibly one of the most terrifying Halloween episodes ever aired by a 90s sitcom. So, if you love a good wholesome scare, then this episode will not disappoint.

This one’s for those spooky peeps who love a good Halloween themed episode, but hate the feeling of being scared. Every Friends fan knows that the most iconic episodes always aired around the winter holiday season (like that one Thanksgiving episode with Brad Pitt), but the show never really kept up with the trend of spooky ‘sodes every year like the rest of the sitcoms on television at the time. Nevertheless, this episode still ranks in the top five purely based on the fact that Chandler spends the whole episode dressed in a pink bunny suit! Nothing is more terrifying than that.
Of course, there are so many more fantastic Halloween episodes from the shows of our childhood, but these five are a MUST watch for all of you Halloween fanatics.
