This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Strath chapter.

So it’s that time of year again, the beginning of the festive period with Bonfire Night & Christmas all in the very near future – and there’s lots to get excited for. Not the least of which is that it is finally the perfect time for those cosy nights in, wrapped up in your duvet with a hot chocolate and the compulsory monthly Netflix binge. So we say, grab your duvet, stick on the kettle and start making your way through this ultimate Netflix must-sees this season!

1. Black Mirror

Black Mirror is one of the most unique shows you’ll find on Netflix, showcasing a series of stand-alone dramas over now three seasons – with the third having just been released (and it’s pretty good!). It features various different stories – each completely different to the last – the vast majority of which are based in the future, focusing on a technological development and the consequences upon society. Now this may all sound like quite a heavy watch, but we promise whilst it has its intense scenes and gets you thinking into the subliminal messages of each story; it has a quirky humour and sentiment running through each episode. What’s more, each episode features incredibly successful actors that you’ll recognise from everywhere from Harry Potter to Game of Thrones. You’ll certainly never be bored with this fantastic Netflix addition!

2. Pretty Little Liars

Of course, Pretty Little Liars is one of our Netflix picks this season! With the 7th season of the show recently released on Netflix and with up to 20 episodes per season, this is not a Netflix binge for the faint hearted. PLL is one of Netflix’s most popular TV shows featuring the lives of 5 young women as they struggle through the torment of the infamous and elusive, ‘A.’ It has everything you could want in a show from romance to murder – we told you it covers it all and has grabbed the attention of thousands all over the world. So stick on some Pretty Little Liars & let us know whether you’re more of a Haleb or a Spoby supporter!

3. Gilmore Girls

Yes, the addition to Netflix that caused thousands of millennials everywhere to flock home to catch up on their favourite adolescent show! An absolute classic, Gilmore Girls is the perfect watch this season. It’s a light-hearted, charming story of a mother and daughter making their way through life and all of the awkward situations and trials that they find themselves in with a sharp sense of humour running through the whole thing. Gilmore Girls is definitely the most easy-to-watch recommendation we have for you and if you want a proper feel-good watch, this is the one! Better yet, if you fall in love with the show – which you definitely will – there will be a new season released this month after years of waiting & we’re all pretty excited.

4. Narcos

Set in Colombia, this hugely popular Netflix Original tells the story of infamous South American drug lord and trafficker, Pablo Escobar, and doesn’t spare any details. It follows the events happening in Colombia as a nation, with a focus upon how these events all impacted Escobar and his growing drug empire. Currently in its second season this show quickly became a phenomenon with its gripping plot and second to none acting performances. The show has just been renewed for a 3rd AND 4th season – what more could you want for your new favourite show? So, if you’re into your gritty, real TV shows then this is right up your street & you’ll be hooked in no time!

5. Being Human

Our final recommendation is another amazing throwback edition to Netflix this year was Being Human, a supernatural tv series which follows the lives of a vampire , a werewolf  and a ghost in the modern day. It follows them struggling with what they are and navigating their ways through all of the supernatural rules which they have to obey. There’s also some of the many awkward situations which occur as the result of being, for example, a werewolf who is also a doctor working in a hospital – so there’s always plenty to keep you interested! So if you love the Vampire Diaries this is its slightly funnier cousin, who is just as gorgeous and no less drama filled!
