Profile: Rebecca Mitchell

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sonoma chapter.

Becca is currently a freshman, Hutchins-Liberal Studies major. She was just elected to be president of the Sonoma State Equestrian Team. We asked her some questiosn to get to know her a little better!

Her Campus: Where are you from?

Becca Mitchell : Wilton, California

HC: What are your career goals?

BM: I want to be a teacher, but eventually move up in the education system and be a principal. And, I want to work with low-income students. I didn’t go to school with low-income kids, but all the volunteering I’ve done so far was with them so I would rather work with them in the future.

HC: What kind of work are you doing?

BM: I nanny for one family, and babysit for another two kids, and volunteered at a low-income school at the beginning of last semester. I have an upcoming internship working at a special education and continuation school for adults and working on putting together teaching conferences for training Waldorf teachers and dipping my toe into that style of teaching.

HC: How do you like Sonoma?

BM: Well for one I like how small it is. I like the student-teacher ration. I feel like it’s a very safe campus, relatively, compared to bigger schools I like that it’s in the country, too! I’m not a city person, but this is still a bigger city than the one I’m from.  It’s a very close-knit community and has a really great program for my major, and a team that I love.

HC: What team are you involved with?

BM: The pony one! The equestrian team is a super close-knit group of girls that ride competitively, either English or Western. We aim to make all our members feel welcome. We do activities together and we show together. We have two fantastic trainers in our area, who allow us to ride at their barns. I’m very fortunate to have been a part of this team this year, and I look forward to the 2016-2017 school year because I’ll be able to represent the girls as president and hopefully gain more recognition as a sports club at Sonoma.(Writer’s note: Wooo! Congrats girl!)

I would like to me more involved in the Women’s and Gender Studies programs as well as the Student California Teacher’s Association, but for now, the team is my priority.

HC: What do you like to do in your free time?

BM: I have no free time. But I like to do yoga and Pilates, and I like to hike, but I’m really clumsy! I’m also learning how to cook currently. And I love going to local coffee shops because I’m a total coffee addict.

~Thanks for chatting with HerCampus, Becca!

Carly is one of the CCs for Sonoma State University, and she is majoring in communications and minoring in sociology. She grew up in southern California, and even though she misses the warm beach, she really enjoys living in wine country in northern CA. She has always had a passion for writing and is so grateful that Her Campus allows her to share that love and encourage others to join in the fun.
