Greetings, ladies! Today, our Vice President has the privilege to interview Ms. Sabrina Mosley. You may or may not know her but she is a highly motivated senior from Baltimore, MD. Not only she is a Baltimore Ravens fan, but she also an active advocate for justice. She is the 2019-2020 SSU National Association for the Advancement of Colored People (NAACP) Collegiate Chapter President and my dear friend. Thank you Sabrina for taking the time out to sit and participate in this interview.
Sabrina: The pleasure is all mines.
Briana: So Sabrina tell me, are there any other organizations that you are apart of?
Sabrina: Yes, I am currently apart of National Society of Leadership and Success. I was previously a Tiger Ambassador.
Briana: National Society of Leadership and Success? Sounds fancy. What’s that? How can you get involved in that organization?
Sabrina: Well, it’s an honor society right here on campus. You get SELCETED based off your excellence academic and leadership achievements on campus.
Briana: Oh. Okay! Well congratulations on being selected. So why did you joined NAACP?
Sabrina: NAACP was the first organization I joined. When I transferred, they hosted a lot of creative events and I was hooked and impressed with the organization. So I went to their interest meeting and the rest is history.
Briana: Story of my life. You said you transferred. From where?
Sabrina: When I was living in Baltimore, I went to a PWI up there. However, when my parents moved to Atlanta, I decided to transfer to an HBCU that had my major.
Briana: Same. What motivates you the most about this organization or even Savannah State as a whole?
Sabrina: Savannah State as a unique HBCU with my major drives even more. Along with NAACP, personally, I know NAACP stands for unity and justice. So as a strong advocator for equality, its motivate me with its significance.
Briana: You mention numerous times, Savannah State, are one of the elite HBCUs that have your major. What is your major?
Sabrina: Criminal Justice
Briana: Oh okay cool. What are your plans after you graduate with your degree in Criminal Justice?
Sabrina: I am planning on further my education at Albany State University; obtain my Masters in Criminal Justice with a concentration in Forensic Science. Therefore, I can start my career as a Crime Lab Analyst.
Briana: Do you have goals for SSU in general? If so, what are they?
Sabrina: More school spirit and unity. Students’ enrollment has decreased over the years since I had been here. Hopefully we can get our enrollment up, more students would be active on campus and love this HBCU as much as I do.
Briana: I totally agree. School spirit is a must on this campus. Most importantly because it is a small university compared to others. So let’s loosen up a bit. If you can describe yourself using one word, what will it be? And why?
Sabrina: Fun. Because I am fun person. I make people laugh and smile. I just bounce off positive energy to any and everyone I am around.
Briana: How about, can you describe yourself using food terminology?
Sabrina: I get this a lot, Sour Patch Kids. My friends say sometimes I am sweet and then I become sour. Or vice versa.
Briana: Interesting. Okay, lets wrap it up. What have you learned from your experience being apart of this organization and also becoming president of NAACP?
Sabrina: I definitely gain leadership skills. I learn to deal with multiple personalities and attitudes. I also learned not to take everything personal, in references to lack of members participation or members not interested in continuing their membership based on whom in leadership position. I also preferred to be surrounded by positive vibes.
Briana: Do you have any advice for incoming freshmen or transfer students?
Sabrina: Be as active as possible. Do not overwork yourself. Take advantage of networking and interacting with other people. It will bring you success in the long run.
Briana: Lastly, do you have any advice for any upcoming executive board members in other organization especially NAACP?
Sabrina: Yes, most definitely. Always do what is best for the organization. Stick to the mission statement. Always try to empower unity among the whole general body not just African Americans in general. Always uphold a family-oriented vibe so everyone can enjoy his or her selves within the organization.
