HerCampus had the opportunity to interview Jahir Cabeza. He is captivating player on the court and gentleman off the court. He is currently a sociology major at the illustrious Savannah State University. Born in the beautiful country of Panama, here is Jahir Cabeza.

Alaysia: Why did you decide to attend SSU?

Jahir: I wanted to go to an HBCU and play basketball. Savannah State University gave me the best of both worlds.

Alaysia: What’s your major, why did you pick it and what are your plans after graduation?

Jahir: My major is sociology. I choose sociology because I like people and I enjoy studying them. After college, I plan on pursuing my professional basketball career and if that doesn’t work then I will have my degree to fall back on.

Alaysia: Do you have a quote or a motto that you live by?

Jahir: Don’t chase people. Be an example. Attract them. Work hard and be yourself. The people who belong in your life will come find you and stay. Just do your thing. By: Anonymous

Alaysia: What is your biggest achievement?

Jahir: The biggest achievement for me was being able to go back home and play for the Panama National Basketball team.

Alaysia: What is the biggest advice you were given?

Jahir: To keep working and work harder than the next person.

Alaysia: Who is your biggest inspiration?

Jahir: My biggest inspiration is my dad.

Alaysia: How long have you’ve been playing basketball?

Jahir: I have been playing basketball ever since I was 5 years old.

Alaysia: What is your daily routine?

Jahir: Wake up, work out, go to work at 6 am, class, workouts, practice, and homework.

Alaysia: If you could play another sport, what would it be?

Jahir: I enjoy playing a lot of sports but I choose track. Track, because I enjoy running and I enjoy running long distances and jumping.

Alaysia: If you could pick a professional team to be on which would it be and why?

Jahir: The Atlanta Hawks. For one, because it is close to home and my family would be able to come see me play. Second, on the off seasons I could come home and relax and spend time with my family.
