Sacramento State’s Campus Resources And What They Can Do For You

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Sacramento chapter.

Most times, students aren’t well informed about the resources that their college campus has available for them. There are campus resources that cater to specific needs that students may face throughout their college years and yet they aren’t made aware of them. Here are some of the many resources that Sacramento State Hornets should know about!

1. Student Health and Counseling Services (SHCS)

This resource is located at The WELL (our campus gymnasium) and offers urgent care, primary care, preventative services, wellness education, violence support services and mental health services. Appointments can be made online on Sacramento State’s official website through the patient portal. SHCS is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday through Thursday and from 9:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. on Friday. For more information about the Student Health and Counseling Services, be sure to click on the link below.

2. The University Reading and Writing Center

As college students, writing essays and formal papers always include some form of getting feedback for revision. The Writing Center is a great place to have tutors look over your reading or writing assignments. Tutors are students who have completed ENGL195A/410A and the Writing Center Internship course, so you can trust that these tutors know what they are doing. Located at Calaveras 128, the Writing Center is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. from Monday to Thursday and 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Friday. For more information about the University Reading and Writing Center, check out the link below.

The FYE Space offers first-year students a chance to talk to peer mentors and ask any questions that they might have. Peer mentors are there to advise about classes and talk about the different resources that are offered here at Sacramento State. This space can be used to study, get help from a peer mentor or simply just to meet other students. The FYE Space is located in the University Library Room 3520. It’s open from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Thursday and 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Friday. For more information about the FYE Space, check out the link below.

ASI gives the students of Sacramento State the chance to be involved on campus and give them a voice. ASI has many programs and services which helps all students in some way or another. One of the many programs they have is the Food Pantry which helps students in need of food. ASI offers internships and leadership opportunities which may be of interest to some students. If you would like more information on the programs and services that ASI offers, check out the link below.

They provide tools and resources, not just for students of the LGBTQ+ community, but for students who are looking to be informed of the community as well. The Pride Center is located on the first floor in the University Union next to Round Table. It is open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday through Friday.
