As if the often rainy and overcast weather wasn’t already a drain on our mental health, now the entire world is couped between the four walls of their house, and that’s all because of COVID-19.

I have been following the news of COVID-19, also called coronavirus, since the day the story broke, though I never thought it would grow to this capacity. Lately, all this reporting has myself and many others feeling scared to go outside. Plus, the social distancing my friends is starting to take a toll on my mental health.

I understand that being alone is tough, and I’ve got you covered. In times like these, being crafty with your free time will save you peace of mind. But I get it, not everyone can think of something to do. So whether you found this article out of sheer boredom or in absolute desperation, here are the top 5 things to do in self-quaruntine:

Exercise

You have no excuse now. Remember all the times you said that you’ve wanted to work out but didn’t have the time? Well, now you’ve got the time. Use your free time to look up short five-minute workout videos on YouTube, or better yet, dust-up those old workout tapes your parents have from the ‘80s. You’ll have a great laugh and break a sweat too.

FaceTime your friends

The precautions the government is taking to isolate the virus are drastic. One week we had the freedom to see our friends, though the next we’re being told to stay inside with no idea when it will all end. You’re not the only one feeling scared. So let’s communicate. Don’t forget to upkeep your social life and FaceTime or Skype your friends.

Meditate

The world honestly feels like it is at a standstill, so let’s savour these moments. In a society where we are constantly pushed to our limits and burnouts are common, we must appreciate a time like this. Take time and heal yourself. Put on some relaxing music, sit cross-legged in a bright room, and find the inner peace within yourself.

Make a schedule

With all of our schedules thrown out of whack, I find myself having extremely late nights and even later mornings. This was fun for the first three days but now I feel that I am not getting the most out of my time. Plus, for someone who sources their happiness off of productivity, this is something dire that I must change. As of right now, I have a schedule for my days, essentially giving me more opportunities to be productive. Even if one of the things that are on my list is to watch a Netflix show, at least I feel as if I accomplished something.

Cook

This is a great way to waste a good hour and a bit from your day, and on top of that, you get something tasty out of it. With people hoarding food, maybe right now is not the best time to be strict with a recipe, so I say wing it. Be creative and play with tastes. Maybe change up an old recipe that you have been doing for years.
