3 Ways to Make Any Space More Peaceful

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Purdue chapter.

During the busy school year, it is easy to feel overwhelmed by all the due dates, extracurriculars, and simple tasks of everyday life. One of the ways I overcome the stressors of daily life is by making my own space tranquil and comfortable. This is especially helpful recently when we are all spending more time in our own rooms due to virtual learning and activities being moved to zoom versus in-person. Hopefully these few tips can help you feel some peace during the busy semester.

Invest in an essential oil diffuser

Essential oil diffusers are a great way of making a space smell nice while providing a calming atmosphere. Scents such as lavender and eucalyptus are known to promote a sense of wellbeing and tranquility. These diffusers can be dual-purpose during the cold winter months and dry air that comes with it because the humidity from the water in the diffuser can make your living space a little more comfortable to spend long quantities of time in.

Blankets, pillows, and area rugs

Decorating with either warm blankest, decorative pillows, or even a comfortable area rug can make the most plain of rooms feel homier and provide a soft place to sit or laydown. Especially after a long day, it can be comforting to know that you have your own space which promotes tranquility and is a good place to unwind.

Himalayan salt lamps

Himalayan salt lamps can add a soft orange glow to your room while being a great decoration piece. The item itself and the glow of the lamp is a decoration that can make your space feel more tranquil and pleasing to look at. Studies show that these lamps potentially emit negative ions which help to decrease anxiety and incase the flow of oxygen to the brain.

Hopefully you can try out some of these tips to make your semester a more peaceful and productive one!
