Tips for Surviving the End of the Semester

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at PS Behrend chapter.

As the semester comes to a close, I know everyone, including myself, is feeling it. We are all counting down the days until Thanksgiving break, missing our family and our pets. Waiting for the sweet release of getting away from school for a week. Everyone is sick, you’re sick, your roommate is sick, your friends second cousin that you didn’t even know went here is sick. But you also know that after the break there is just a few more weeks till finals. So, now you are sick and stressed. Surviving these last few weeks of school can be tough but there are ways to help get yourself through it all.

Activity One:

Clean your dang room, apartment, everything. Wash your sheets, you probably haven’t in like a month. But think about it if everyone is sick all those germs are just floating about. So, get up, put on comfy clothes, turn the music up loud and clean, maybe drink wine while doing it. Having a clean space honestly makes me feel better, but it gives me the idea that I got this and I can get my life together.

Activity Two:

Take a breather, give yourself a spa day. You deserve to relax more than anything. You have worked so hard this semester and have put in all the work to take an hour or two and just relax. Listen to some nice soft music and curl up in a bath with a good book. Have a nice colorful bath bomb and some candles lit and just forget everything for a moment.

Activity Three:

Go out and have some fun with your friends. Do one last big end of the semester event. That could be going to the movies, having a little party, taking your anger out in a game of laser tag, going bowling. But make time for your friends, they are struggling too and probably need a break from books just as much as you do.

Activity Four:

Call your parents, they miss you. They might not admit it but they do, just like you might not admit that you miss them. But you probably don’t talk to them often or if you do it is you ranting about some assignment or what Becky did. But see how they are, what they have been up to. Talk to you pet on the phone, my dog when I call home always goes to my mom’s phone and licks it when I talk to her. But let them know you are thinking about them too.

Those are just some things that help get me through it all. But honestly, the main thing that helps when I’m stressed out and can’t deal with my own stuff anymore is going to therapy. Talking things through to someone that knows nothing about any person in your life can really help. Even if it is to just complain that your teacher gave you a 60% on your homework assignment. Let your stress out, don’t bottle it in because trust me it will not help. But honestly just take a breather and let things settle around you. Piglet once said “Don’t underestimate the value of doing nothing, of just going along, listening to all the things you can’t hear, and not bothering.” Which honestly go for it. Take time away if it is what you need, everyone will understand.
