The CW has ordered a pilot of the Charmed reboot. Does the show Charmed not ring a bell? According to IMDb, the first episode aired back in 1998 and the show ran till 2006. It was about the three sisters who lived in San Francisco, CA. The Halliwell sisters discover they’re witches known as the Charmed Ones. They battle demons and evil magic to protect the innocent. It starred Alyssa Milano, Holly Marie Combs, Shannen Doherty and Rose McGowan. You probably know Holly Marie Combs as Aria’s mom from Pretty Little Liars.
Per E! News, this reboot is described as a “fierce, funny, feminist reboot of the original series” that “centers on three sisters in a college town who discover they are witches. Between vanquishing supernatural demons, tearing down the patriarchy, and maintaining familial bonds, a witch’s work is never done.”
Sounds like an awesome new show right? Well, not everyone thinks so. Holly Marie Combs aka one of the OG Halliwell sisters has a different opinion.
Combs tweeted out to over 900K followers, “Here’s the thing. Until you ask us to rewrite it like Brad Kern did weekly don’t even think of capitalizing on our hard work. Charmed belongs to the 4 of us, our vast amount of writers, crews and predominantly the fans. FYI you will not fool them by owning a title/stamp. So bye.”

The emphasis on this reboot being “feminist” isn’t sitting well with Combs either since it’s implying that the original Charmed was not. I’ve seen my fair share of the old Charmed episodes and I have to say I’m with Combs on this one.
