Alexa Canady: The First Black and First Women Neurosurgeon (D, C, C, C, C)

Bio: In 1981, Alexa Canady first Black Neurosurgeon, as well as the first Woman neurosurgeon! She attended University of Michigan, and and specialized in pediatric neurgosurgey. She eventually became the director of Neurosurgery at Mott’s Childrens Hospital, and later moved to Florida to retire, but continued working when she learned there was no pediatric neurosurgen in the area.

You are always giving your all. While you are naturally very intelligent, your discipline and focus have really made you into the overacheiver you are. Your desire to help other people comes in the form of pressing for new and better ideas, and problem solving. The world needs more minds like yours!

Vivian Maier: Genius Undiscovered Photographer (C, A, D, D, B)

Bio: Vivian Maier was an American photographer, whose genius was only discovered after her passing. She took over 150,000 photos in her life, mostly of people in Chicago, Los Angeles, and New York City, often while working her day job as a nanny. A curator of her photos once said about Maier She was a Socialist, a Feminist, a movie critic, and a tell-it-like-it-is type of person. She learned English by going to theaters, which she loved … She was constantly taking pictures, which she didn’t show anyone.

You’re adventurous, present and independent. You see the world through a different lense, but more importantly, you’re curious about the lenses of others. You have a tendency to go through the world too quickly. Don’t forget to take a photo or two :)

Lady Trieu: Fierce Warrior and Revolutionary (B, D, B, B, D)

Bio: Lady Trieu was a Vietnamise revolutionary in the 3rd century. Predating Joan of Arc, Lady Trieu, organized a revolt against the Chinese occupation in her country. According to Chinese Legend, it was easier to fight a tiger than to face her, and she’s quoted as saying “I’d like to ride storms, kill sharks in the open sea, drive out the aggressors, reconquer the country, undo the ties of serfdom, and never bend my back to be the concubine of whatever man.

You are not here to play. Your fearless attitude allows you to get things done, and make real change. You hype your lady  friends up, have their backs, but let them know when they’re getting in their own way. Your strong sense of right and wrong is inspiring, but it’s even more inspiring how few f*cks you truly give.

Jane Addams: Philanthropist, Activist, and Nobel Peace Prize Winner (A, B, A, A, A)

Bio: Back in 1889, Jane Addams and her romantic partner, Ellen Starr, founded The Hull House, the first “Settlement Houses”, an insitution placed in poor areas providing food, healthcare, education and childcare. Addams co-founded the ACLU, and in 1931 was the first woman to recieve the Nobel Peace Prize.

Not only are you an attentive, helpful and fun friend, your kind treatment of strangers is even more telling of your generous spirit. You uplift the women in their life because you genuinely believe in them. Your greatest strength is your compassion, and your social planning abilities. Cheers to the mom friend!
