A quick note: Tarot cards are to be used as guidance for your life. They are not definite actions you have to take or predictions of your future. Sometimes the cards show you a bad outcome to help you change your current actions. You can interpret their messages however it may apply to your life!

MARCH’S CARD: The Eight of Pentacles (Hermetic Deck)

    Ruling element: Earth

    Ruling planet: Virgo

Keywords: apprenticeship, mastery, prudence, success, security

When the Eight of Pentacles appears in a reading, it’s a sign that you have been working hard to make yourself and your surroundings flourish. If you are unhappy with something in your life right now, this card means that you are ready and willing for a change; take it as a green light to do whatever you need to do to make yourself feel/be better.

The steady and delicate hand holding the blooming flowers at the bottom of the card represents you holding yourself up, making yourself better, either in your career, school, at home, or just for your own sake. Be gentle with yourself in this period of your life; you may have been hard on yourself for various reasons for a while now, but the Eight of Pentacles serves as a reminder that it’s okay to cut yourself some slack. It’s alright to be frustrated with yourself, but when it hinders your ability to move forward, there’s a problem. Take some time this month to reflect on what you’ve accomplished this year and what you’re grateful for!

The flowers are anchored to the bottom of the card; this serves as a reminder that growth can only come if you plant your roots firmly into the ground. If you do not have a strong foundation for yourself right now, there is no way you can move up. This month is good for evaluating your goals, values, beliefs, etc. to make sure you have a strong hold on them. A good way to do this is to write them down, either as a letter to yourself, a journal, or just a list; putting your thoughts down on paper to look at later when you’re caught up in frustrations or negative emotions can act as a touchstone for you to remind yourself why you’re putting in all this hard work.

The pentacles sit behind the flowers, encouraging upward growth and mobility. This card urges you to look at the finer details of your life, especially people and things that may be hindering your full potential. It’s time to weed out those that may not help you at this stage of your life, those that may be holding you back from your full potential. Surround yourself with positive people, things, places, knick-knacks, anything that makes you feel most motivated and secure. Flowers can’t grow without some pruning, and neither can you.

The flowers are not fully grown; they are stopped in the middle of the card. But there is a stem branching out of the topmost flower, and the flowers are all reaching up towards the sun at the top of the card. Right now, it may feel like you are not where you want to be, but if you look closely, the longest sunray touches the top flower. Like the flower, you are almost at the light! If things seem like they aren’t going your way, just know that you are much closer to reaching your goals than you think, especially if you keep working towards them.

Although you may have felt stuck for a while, the Eight of Pentacles is confirmation that you are on the right path towards achieving your goals. And if you don’t feel that, this card is a prompt to look into yourself to see what you need to change to do so.
