Fashion Design Students at Parsons School of Design Showcase Their Talents

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at New School chapter.

The New School’s Parsons School of Design produces some of the best, young fashion designers in the world, so here is a look at some of their best work at Parsons.

Alex Yarally, Fashion Design at Parsons

Yarally is a student at Parsons studying fashion design.” His upbringing had a major impact on him pursuing the garment industry..

“I think the influence of my grandmother might be the initial reasonings for appreciating clothing. She was always sewing and and creating things we couldn’t afford growing up,” he said.

On Sep. 14, Yarally took home The Costume Institute Fashion Design Award at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, where he represented Parsons with his “Heavenly Bodies” dress. Yarally takes authenticity very seriously and mentioned that, “I don’t relate to many contemporary designers, there’s a lot of people who are just knocking each other off, so individuality is scarce.”

Since Feilder was very young, she has always been interested in things that were style and art related, but her first time watching Project Runway, when it initially came out,  what motivated her to pursue fashion design. As a person of color, she shared that her journey has not always been easy.“In my encounters in the New School, one of the more frustrating things that I’ve dealt with as a fashion design student, especially being a student of color and being in my senior year, is being frequently pigeon-holed in my work,” she said.

Fielder was first runner up behind Yarally in the competition at The Metropolitan Museum of Art
