Does a Bad Physical Feature Turn You Off?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at New School chapter.

In the world we live in today, something as simple as uneven eyebrows can turn someone off. But is having one bad physical feature really that big of a deal?

Everyone has different opinions on what looks beautiful in this world. But who is to say that a bad physical feature should affect attraction? Beyone the superficial, the main point is to have confidence in yourself.

Being honest, I have dated people with a bad physical feature which I didn’t like about them. But, there were so many other things that actually mattered more than one or two physical traits and features that the person has. Just like anyone else, I can tell you now that I have a few things about me that I don’t like, yet I always try to be confident. The lesson is to always be yourself and accept your flaws.

But what if that flaw is on somebody you like?

Well, I wanted to experiment and get someone who felt some type of way about a physical feature that they didn’t like and so, I met up with someone close. The person asked me to keep their name private! But their question for me was: “What should I do if I do not like a particular physical feature about this guy that I am talking to?”

This was what they had to say:

I see where this can be an issue, because I think that you’re most likely thinking and Imagining waking up to see that bad physical feature every day. But, my take on this issue is that sometimes you can grow to like a “bad” physical feature about someone. It can be very hard in the beginning, but you can see it through if, especially if its something minor. Imagine losing the chance of being with them because of a supposedly “bad physical feature.” Sometimes that bad physical feature is that person’s biggest confidence booster, and all they need is someone to embrace it. Have you ever seen some very unique models that make you wonder how did got into modeling? Adopt that way of thought. Sometimes it’s what you think is bad that makes you unique and different from everyone else. Trust me when I tell you that. It all boils down to whether that person is making you happy or not. That is the question you should ask yourself and if the answer is yes, then the physical features are only secondary.
