As a first-year college student who often disregards her budget to go out, it has been helpful to have found some affordable restaurants in NYC. Some of these restaurants are near The New School dorms and some are near the main campus. Below are a variety of food options for whatever you are craving.
Koko Sushi
Koko Sushi is only a few blocks away from the 1st avenue dorm and offers good prices. They have a four-dollar miso soup, a large range of special platters, an all-you-can-eat option and best of all you can get three different sets of rolls for 18 dollars. Their food is good quality and you can eat up knowing you’re not spending a fortune on a meal.
2 Bros Pizza
Located on St Marks Street and 2nd Avenue, 2 Bros offers pizza for the price of one dollar. The crust is airy and thick and it’s not overly greasy. It is a small store that makes it easy to grab your food and go for a busy college student.
Vanessa’s Dumpling House
I have only ordered from Vanessa’s Dumplings through GrubHub, so I cannot account for inside the restaurant, but the food is great. It is affordable, you can get eight dumplings by paying five to nine dollars, and it is flavorful. This restaurant is worth checking out. They also have multiple locations.
Ukrainian East Village Restaurant
The Ukrainian East Village Restaurant is a great place to get your authentic Polish and Ukrainian fix. The restaurant is lightly decorated with traditional outfits and it feels cozy inside due to the wood fixtures and warm lighting. It feels familiar, possibly because my family grew up eating there, and this restaurant delivers filling food at an affordable price.
