The Skincare You Need for the Cold and Dry Months Ahead

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Montclair chapter.

My skin suffers a LOT during the colder months. It’s darker earlier which means lower temps and less humidity.

In the winter our faces see the sun a lot less, unfortunately. For me, this means more breakouts and pale skin, not fun. I’ve tried and tested all of the products that claim to be the best, specifically for dry and scaly skin in the wintertime. Hyaluronic acid is going to be your BEST friend…

Tarte has become one of my holy grail brands for makeup and skincare as well, Tarte knows how to do it right. Starting with your cleanser, I have been obsessed with the Deep Dive Cleansing Gel. When I use it, I just feel so clean afterward. My skin is glowing, hydrated and refreshed.

As for an exfoliant, I love the Dermalogica Daily Microfoliant Exfoliant. This is gentle enough to use on a daily basis but I like to use this three to four times a week to get the dead, dry skin off for a more polished look. The reason I love this is that  I don’t feel that it dries out my skin like most exfoliants.

Serums are something everyone needs to incorporate in their skincare routine but tend to get forgotten about. Ole Henriksen is known for this serum for a reason because it is truly AMAZING. It’s a bit spendy but worth every penny. All you need is a little bit and your skin will thank you. It’s loaded with Vitamin C for ultra glowiness and hydration, as well as collagen for a tighter face.

As for moisturizers, if you tend to be a bit more oily, even in the winter, a moisturizer I swear by is the Tarte Drink of H2O. You are literally giving your skin a drink of water with this ultra-hydrating moisturizer. Unlike other hydrating moisturizers, this is so lightweight and breathable you don’t even realize anything is on your skin at all. It even has a refreshing cooling feeling. If your skin is super dry, like mine, I often double up on moisturizers using a super thick and creamy one to really lock in the moisture. First Aid Beauty’s Ultra Repair Cream has this name for a reason. This is also great if you suffer from eczema. The best part about both of these moisturizers is that they’re perfect for all skin types, hence why they are best sellers.

What are you waiting for? Add these to your cart at Sephora right now and give your skin what it deserves this season!
