What’s In My Bag? CC Edition

For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Joelle Bellini and I am one of this year’s CCs. I am constantly on the go… Like the 10 hours a day, 7 days a week kind. So when I leave my tiny Upper East Side apartment every morning, I have to bring everything I could possibly need with me. It is an absolute must. I am currently working three internships (Redbook, Decider, and Melsy’s Illustrations) plus two jobs… oh, and full course load. So you can only imagine the items I need everyday as I go from one place to the next. Of course my purse is always over flowing with stuff, but I am only going to highlight the essentials… because let’s be honest, if I went through every item in my bag, we’d be here for days.

Essentials

1. A good book.

All of my internships, jobs, and classes means a lot, and I mean a lot of time spent on the subway. I always make sure to have a book with me to pass the time. Right now, I am hooked on The Wangs vs. the World by Jade Chang. It’s an outrageously funny tale about a wealthy Chinese-American family that “loses it all, then takes a healing, uproarious road trip across the United States” (Entertainment Weekly). Their spectacular fall from riches to rags brings the Wangs together in a way money never could. It’s an epic family saga and an entirely fresh look at what it means to belong in America.

2. Sunglasses.

Even when I do get a full night of beauty sleep, I still look like I rose from the dead. That said, I always have a pair of sunglasses on me. Yes, I am sometimes that douchebag who wears them on the subway. But trust me, it’s for your own good.

3. My planner.

There is no way I could possibly survive without this thing. It is the glue that holds my life together. Not only is it practical but it’s super cute, too.

4. Headphones.

When the subway is too crowded to read, I listen to music instead. I am also the queen of transcriptions at Decider.com so if I don’t have a pair of headphones, my life is basically over.

5. A pen.

As an intern, it is always good to have one of these around. I am also that girl who constantly has notes written on the back of her hand.

6. Tinted moisuturizer

I typically don’t have time in the mornings to do a full face of makeup. Tinted moisturizer is easy and I have less of a chance to make a mistake. *Peep at the girls who don’t blend.*

7. Bronzer

Rimmel London’s natural bronzer is perfect for a little mid day touch up. It gives me the subtle contour that I need because you never know who you may bump into at the Hearst Tower. I’m still waiting to be starstruck by Joanna Coles.

8. Lipstick.

As much as I wish I could be Andy Sachs and just throw on some chapstick in the morning before I leave for work, I can’t. But Rimmel London’s provocalips makes it easier. Fatal Kiss is a gorgeous shade for the fall/winter season. I love that there are two steps. First step, apply the color. Second step, lock it in with some hydrating gloss.

9. Eyeliner

I don’t wear eyeliner every day, but when I do this is my go to choice. It makes for a gorgeous cateye. The pencil is so easy and smooth, plus it’s waterproof! I love it for a quick day to night makeup change.

10. Mascara.

Yes, ladies. I saved the best for last. Even on days that I decide to attempt a flawless “no makeup, makeup” look, I still end up with atleast two coats of mascara. Rimmel London’s Volume Flash Scandaleyes Mascara gives me just what I’m looking for.
