How I Met My Best Friend in My Senior Year of College

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Millersville chapter.

Oddly enough, I met my best friend on Tinder. We met up at Millersville’s Pridefest and there was little to no awkwardness, we immediately hit it off (platonically). We started to hang out and talk a lot more, and we both found comfort in knowing that we had found a friend that liked some of the same things and enjoyed the feeling of support from each other. She was transferring here from community college, so we were eager to do things on campus together.

Our friendship blossomed over breakfast Mondays and Wednesdays at Saxbys. We are always finding some new funny phrases to say. As we did more and more, we decided to be gym buddies. For two weeks so far, we have been trying to stay motivated, eat healthy and exercise together. I also have been trying to limit my dairy product consumption, and she has made a full switch to veganism! It feels like an accomplishment for both of us. And the days we need to skip the gym, we still do workouts at home.

It is amazing to have a consistent friend, someone to talk to and laugh and be silly with. I used to eat by myself at my dorm, but having that social time during the day is a blessing. It’s awesome that she is only a text away. And of course we can talk about whatever, whenever and never get bored. One of the most fun things we did was go to an Indian restaurant called Namaste, put on nice clothes and took pictures!

I will always have great memories to look back on when I am older, like going to Waffle House super late at night, when she helped me dye my hair, studying late, and working out together. I admire her for going through tough times, and for still showing up for herself. Her love for dancing, learning and speaking Spanish, theater, and caring for people are some key characteristics that I continue to be inspired by.

We support each other no matter what. Sometimes we have our bad days, but at the end of the day, you can love your friends and let them care for you just as much as you do for them.

Thank you for coming into my life and making it brighter!
