Video games are something that we’ve all grown up with, and I have such fond memories of playing various games over the years with my family. When the Wii first came out, my entire family became obsessed with Wii Sports, where we could bowl, play tennis, and box with each other. Soon after that, I remember battling my way through Super Mario Brothers with my dad and my younger siblings. My dad was (and still is) a huge computer nerd, so every new console was something that he just HAD to have. From the Wii and Wii U to the various DS, Xbox, and Playstation consoles, there truly is a console and game for everyone, no matter what you’re into.

Three years ago I saved up and got myself a Nintendo Switch, which is similar to the Wii in that it can be hooked up to your TV via an HDMI cable, but different because it’s also super portable and can be handheld as well. Since then, I have discovered so many games that I absolutely love and I think you will too.

Minecraft

The classic video game, Minecraft, came out in 2011 and remains popular to this day. While it’s available on a couple of different platforms, I really like playing it on the Switch. The Switch makes it super easy to play multiplayer on the same console but also to play multiplayer with different Switch consoles via the Internet. This game can be as casual or as hardcore as you want, making it super versatile and lots of fun.

Animal Crossing: New Horizons

This is one of my favorite games of all-time. Cute graphics, even cuter characters, and the freedom to do pretty much anything you want? Yes please. This game is also on the newer side and gets updates all the time, so gameplay keeps getting better and better.

Stardew Valley

This game is like a super cute mashup of Minecraft and the Sims. You create your character and then follow the storyline, meeting tons of other characters along the way. You create friendships with them by getting to know what they like while running and expanding the farm you live on. This game gets even better with the magical aspects hidden throughout. I also have to mention that this game lets you get married if you’d like to, and you can choose any of the characters (inclusivity!!!).

Just Dance

The Just Dance game franchise has been around since I was a child and a competitive dancer, so obviously I’ve always been obsessed with these games. I own every single one they’ve ever released, and it’s so fun to get your roommates and friends together and dance to your favorite hit songs!

Cooking Mama

Anyone else remember playing Cooking Mama on their DS? I do, and I was obsessed! It’s even better to see it on the switch, but the game remains a classic where you, duh, cook cute recipes.
The Nintendo Switch console is for sale at pretty much every major retailer, like Target, Walmart, Best Buy, and GameStop starting at $299.99. The Nintendo Switch Lite is also a cheaper option, but this is a totally portable console that can’t hook up to a TV, available in a few different colors starting at $199.99.
