When it comes to my own style, it has been developed through inspirational people. Whether that’s celebrities, characters from cinema, or important people in my life, they all inspire me to stick to and continue to evolve my creative style all while still expressing my own authenticity.
Since highschool, Diana’s style has been my favorite. As a curly haired Dominican from New York City, I saw a bit of myself in her. She was one of my favorite inspirations when I had a difficult time finding outfits that would go with my curly hair. At the time, most fashionable styles that were easily searched on Pinterest, Instagram or Google tended to be paired with straight or wavy hair. Yet after coming across Diana’s page on a Calvin Klein ad on instagram I was very content with finding her style. Most of her looks speak a bit of her character, and she continues to share neverending styles,
Ashley Diaz
Growing up, Ashley has been the fashion icon in our family. And she still carries that crown. From her Juicy Couture days during her tween age to her classic Ralph Lauren college looks now, she continues to evolve. Incorporating timeless outfits, she does a great job combining classic American apparel and developing them into everyday city outfits. Applying that same idea of neutral outfits in classic looks, I love using this style for everyday wear during the colder seasons (especially pairing them with sneakers!).
Using y2k fashion and modern styles, Kali Uchis has a way of always looking like a goddess. I adore that her style is like that of a 90’s telenovela star mixed with vintage Dior. Even when she’s dressed casually, she makes the outfit look super expensive. If there was one word to describe her style, it would be ethereal. From satin garments to perfect accessorizing, her outfits allow her to captivate that goddess energy.
My Mom
I’d be lying if I said my mom wasn’t another fashion icon I looked up to when I was younger. Similar to Ashley, my mom’s style trends towards neutral flexibility. Thanks to her favorite color being black, she selects new clothes that would be flexible with many other pieces. From time to time she will throw in a print or two as her statement pieces, especially anything that is Coach or cheetah print. As a young teenager during the 90’s, her 90’s outfits were an inspiration to me when I was in high school. When looking at those photographs, her teenage style would play with oversized clothing or sleek silhouettes, either from denim jeans or bodycon dresses and skirts. And just like Diana, her outfits and hair helped me appreciate curly hair in stylish clothes.
