What exactly is an implant? Well ladies and gents, it is a type of birth control that is inserted into your upper-inner arm. Then it is replaced every 3 years. If you are anything like me, I bet the thought of having an implant is nerve-wracking. You have every right to be anxious, for more facts and information regarding the implant continue reading this article!

Because the implant is placed underneath the skin, it makes us worry about the worse case scenarios. Fear not, for I am here to let you know that all of those thoughts are coming from your fear of uncertainty. Admittedly, those are logical risks; however, they are highly unlikely if done by a professional. It is also a very quick, convenient, and safe procedure, and it is proven to be more effective than the pill or patch. To reiterate, you only have to change it once every three years. How amazing is that, right? The link here goes into more details about the risks. https://www.nexplanon.com/side-effects/

Now, I was one of those people who were petrified about getting one, but after a friend of mine (who actually uses this method of birth control) informed me about how it actually feels, I decided to dig a little deeper. How it works is small, thin rod with hormones is inserted into your previously numbed arm. Then, about five days after the insertion you will be set for the three following years to come. The only downsides about it are the soreness after the numbing shot has passed and the possible bruising. If you are now considering switching birth controls, talk to your gynecologist first to ensure that this is something that can work for you.

I hope you find this information enlightening for you as it was for me. If you have any more concerns or want to take a closer look yourself there is a link to the detailed planned parenthood website below. Always remember that your body is your business so pick a birth control that you are most comfortable with!
