“My first basketball game was when I was in 6th grade.  I remember losing to UMass by one point and the Fieldhouse going up in uproar. I knew in that moment that I was going to be a Kansas fan for life. I’m a legacy. My mom graduated the year Danny Manning and the miracles surprised the whole country. From an extremely young age, I was destined to be a Jayhawk.”

Wow, that was extremely sentimental. I’m crying over here –really. But, in all seriousness, I knew that I was always going to do to KU and I am proud of it – and today, ladies, I’m going to be telling you why you should be proud to a Jayhawk too.

Jayhawks are Different

If you grew up anywhere in Kansas, you’ve probably heard the stories of the Civil War. Kansans are Jayhawks. We are different, the only school in country with our mascot. I mean, really, who wants to die a copy when you were born to be different?

Jayhawks have a Legacy

One word – Naismith. We created the game of basketball for heavens’ sake, nobody can touch that – even though Kentucky did try – and we have the biggest home court advantage in the country. We have the legacy that makes us who we are. History repeats itself  – you know “ten there, done that”?

Jayhawks are Family

I can’t tell you how many t-shirts I’ve seen since I moved to Lawrence that say “F.O.E” (Family Over Everything). KU is your home away from home and there is nothing better than having that family “meeting” at the Fieldhouse in March.

Jayhawks are Everywhere

Okay, so this might not help you right now, but later on when you when you are networking, think about how many people have graduated from KU? When I go on vacation every year and I wear one of my KU shirts, at least one person yells, “rock chalk” at me. It’s a very comforting feeling.

Jayhawks are Famous

It’s almost impossible not to know at least one famous KU Alum, and who love KU as much as we do. Jayhawks go out and do great things – they come back and see us too – and that’s something to be proud of.

Jayhawks are a lot of things, but bringing all of them together is what makes us proud to be who we are. It takes a special person to be a Jayhawk – so always be KU Loud and Jayhawk proud, ladies.
