If The Bra Fits…

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Kenyon chapter.

If there’s anything that the 2012 elections taught us all about the female body, it is that it’s both beautiful and complicated.  Every woman should have the power and know-how to take care of her own body. This can mean something as huge as being knowledgeable about one’s reproductive rights or as personal as knowing your bra size. I know what you’re thinking – of course I know my bra size! But do you really? Eight out of ten women are wearing the wrong bra size. This may seem shocking, but just think about it – the female body changes with the years and even by the week!  Here are a few tips on how to know if you’re wearing the wrong bra size. If you’re already wearing the right size, wonderful! If not – well, who doesn’t like a few sexy new bras ? It’s a win-win, ladies!

Signs That You’re Wearing The Wrong Bra Size:

1.You always wear your bra on the tightest hook…You should be able to fasten the clasp on the first hook without your bra feeling loose. If your bra feels too loose when you do this, either the band is worn out, or you need to go down in band size.

2. Your bra straps are too tight on your shoulders…The band of your bra should be providing 80% of your bust support. If your bra straps are being over-worked this can only lead to shoulder and back pain. No one wants that! Try going down a band size. This will provide more support and eliminate the strain on your shoulders.

3. You have bulges at the top or the sides of your bra…Ladies, lets keep all of the cleavage in the cups! If you’re having a problem with your breasts spilling over the cup of your bra, or worse yet, out of the sides (armpit boob!), you should probably go up a cup size.
4. Your bra has wrinkles…The best bra draws attention to your banging body and not the bra itself. If your bra wrinkles, the cup size is too big. Time to downsize.

5. The gore (middle fabric between the cups) doesn’t touch your skin…The gore is the fabric that connects the cups of your bra at the front center.  The gore should lay flat on your chest — if it doesn’t touch your skin, the cups are too small. This is essential. If that piece of fabric isn’t lying flat, you wont get the right amount of band support.
