Why Is Voting So Important?

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Jefferson chapter.

I give a round of applause to those that made it out to vote on Tuesday, November 5. To those that didn’t, this is why voting is so important and why you should make sure that you are present next Election Day.

Young voters account for half of the voting population.

You may think your vote doesn’t matter, but in fact it does. Young voters make up so much of the population and are extremely important in determining our future!

Voting is a right and privilege!

Especially as a female, I feel obligated to vote. Think about those that still don’t have the right to vote. You are the voice for them as well.

Voting is an opportunity for your voice to be heard.

People are always saying they are too small to make a change, yet voting is an easy way to do that and to make your voice heard! So many things are affected by policy and voting is your opportunity to make a change! Take it a step further by campaigning for your favorite candidates.

So many people fought for our right to vote, the least we can do is actively use it.

People rioted and were literally jailed fighting for our right to vote. It wasn’t always this easy!

Voting increases social awareness.

Voting keeps you up to date with current date politics and who is representing you in office. It is good to know who is in charge in your area!

Like I said, if you didn’t make it this year, there is always next year (WHICH IS A VERY IMPORTANT ELECTION). Please take the time to go vote, I promise it will be worth it!
