It is very easy to forget about all of our blessings. I am guilty of it myself. But around this time of year, I like to take a second to think about what I am grateful for. Taking time out of your day to think about what you are thankful for can have many benefits. Some include:

1. It increases positivity

2. It improves self-esteem

3. It helps you sleep at better

4. It makes you happier

5. It reduces stress

Here is a list of a few things I am thankful for this season:

My family

I have been making more of an effort to talk to my family more frequently. I never realized it before but talking to my parents actually makes me feel a lot better and I know it makes their day to hear from me. Call your parents or a loved one to tell them that you love them! I promise such a simple act will make them so happy.

My education

It is very easy to take education for granted. I mean let’s be real, how many times have we skipped class for no good reason? But believe it or not, education is one of the biggest blessings you can receive. People all over the world don’t have the same opportunity to get an education like we do, so not taking it for granted but rather being thankful for it can change your whole mood and attitude about going to class.

My counselor

Yes… I am thankful for my counselor, and I am not ashamed! She has helped me through so much this season, especially with winter sadness creeping in. End the stigma around counseling and if you need someone to talk to, don’t be afraid to reach out! Check your school’s resources to see if they have counseling services available.

Food

When you think of Thanksgiving, you probably think about the big feast you’ll be eating with your family. But please don’t forget that there are people out there that don’t have anything, not even a meal on Thanksgiving Day. This Thanksgiving try not to waste. Only put on your plate what you can eat. And remember how lucky you are to be sharing a meal with your loved ones!

Happy Thanksgiving! We truly do have so much to be thankful for. <3
