If you asked me a month ago what I thought of when I heard the word “podcast,” I would have immediately flashed back to being in the car with my dad as a little kid, being forced to listen to talk radio about something uninteresting (to me) for far too long rides. I assumed this was what podcasts were and honestly didn’t consider them to see if they could be more fun…until recently. One day several people I work with talking about the podcasts they love, so I took their suggestions and decided to dive in. So far, these are my favorites!

My Favorite Murder

If you’re a person, like me, who has binged watched all of Criminal Minds, Dexter, and Bates Motel, and who secretly thinks serial killers are extremely interesting to hear about, this one is for you. It’s dark and twisted, but the hosts, Georgia and Karen, keep it full of comedy to help ease the edge. They go back and forth discussing murders that they think are interesting, talking about them in detail and trying to figure out how or why they happened. Certain episodes can be frightening, so I usually try to balance them out with something lighter, like any of the other podcasts on this list!

This podcast is all about modern dating. While a lot of what they discuss might start with Tinder, this is fun to listen to and can be informative, no matter what your relationship status is or how you go about dating. You get both a male and female perspective on all of the problems that they discuss. While they begin every episode by discussing a topic one of them brings up, most of the episodes hinge on listener questions, which could be relatable to almost anyone.

36 Questions

I listened to the 3 episodes of this (yes – it’s only three episodes!!) in one afternoon. Because of how short it is, this one is very easily binge-able. For fans of musicals – or just fans of Jonathan Groff – this will be a lot of fun. It’s a musical podcast about a couple in the middle of a divorce, who use something called the 36 Questions to try and see if they can fall back in love. It’s all told as if it were recorded off a cell phone, which adds a little extra fun. The songs are catchy and it’s a story you’ll wish there’s more of once you finish.

One True Pairing

This is a brand new series, which premiered Valentine’s week. The two hosts, who are both fans of romance novels, discuss their favorite OTPs, including their background history and where they think their future could go. While the first episode is about a real-life couple, Prince Harry and Megan Markel, they also plan to discuss some of everyone’s favorite fictional couples. After I finished the first episode I wished there were 100 more, just because it’s happy, light, and a perfect match for any hopeless romantic.
