My Obsession with Ice Cream

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Jefferson chapter.

Since I can I remember, I have always been in love with ice cream. I like to believe I get it from my father’s side of the family. When my grandparents were teenagers, my grandpa worked in an ice cream parlor in Chicago. My grandma always says that my grandpa stole her heart with pistachio ice cream. Whenever my siblings and I were with them they always took us to get ice cream or made us bowls of ice cream at their home.

Additionally, my family loves to boat and some of the lakes we visit have marines that sell ice cream. We have a family tradition that anytime we are on the boat at some point in the afternoon or evening we have to stop and get ice cream.

Since I have been in college the last two years the cravings have increased. My roommate, Kellyn, shares my love for ice cream if not a little more. We are always buying Ben and Jerry’s or trying different creameries around the city. One of our top favorite places to get ice cream is Franklin Fountain located in Old City. We were introduced to it by our other roommate Kaitlyn and her family. The ice cream here is delicious! What makes the whole experience even better is that the whole set-up is old fashion taking you back to style I’m sure was around when my grandparents met! I even got to take my grandma there for ice cream when she came out to visit!

Another great place is Big Gay Ice Cream on South Street. They have a delicious menu that consists of ice cream dipped in fudge or paired with Nutella! My roommates and I highly recommend it!

Philadelphia is a great city to be in if you have an obsession with ice cream! There are so many delicious places to try to even count. If all else fails, there’s always the local grocery store where you can get my two

favorite men, Ben and Jerry!
