Breast Cancer Awareness Month: Fight in Pink

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Jefferson chapter.

Fight in Pink! It’s Breast Cancer Awareness Month

October shows the first signs of fall: the changing of leaves, pumpkin patches, sweet autumn treats and other fun activities, but it also the month of awareness for Breast Cancer.  October is a time to celebrate the fighters and survivors of breast cancer and donate our time and money to find a cure. The color pink symbolizes the raise of awareness and the large amount of fight the sufferers, survivors and supporters have against this disease.

Whether its donating money, walking in a breast cancer walk or fundraising to assist in research for a cure, you’re making a difference. There are many opportunities around Philadelphia this month to get involved. Here are just a few:

1. Bloomingdale’s Rock the Ribbon Runway Show will be benefiting BreastCancer.org on Thursday, October 13 at their King of Prussia location from 6:00pm to 8:00pm.  If you love to shop, head over to Bloomingdale’s at any time on October 13th and 10 percent of the sales will go to BreastCancer.org!

2. American Cancer Society is one of the leading organizations fighting against breast cancer.  Every year American Cancer Society has their breast cancer walk, Making Strides Against Breast Cancer, dedicated to community and raising money to support further research.  Making Strides of Philadelphia is on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at 8:30am in West Fairmount Park.  Interested in walking or supporting the cause?  Be sure to visit the Making Strides Against Breast Cancer website to sign up or donate!

3. Helen’s Angels society is a non-profit organization dedicated to supporting the fighters, survivors, and their families who are impacted by breast cancer.  Come enjoy a night of fundraising and celebration with this great organization!  Helen’s Angels 6th Annual Tinis for the Tatas fundraising event is at The American Pub on Thursday, October 20, 2016 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm.

4. Sky Zone is the world’s first indoor trampoline park and if staying active with flips and jumps is your kind of fun this place is for you.  Komen Philadelphia has organized a fundraising event with Sky Zone, featuring $5 dollars per hour of jumping fun with all proceeds going to the cause.  Sky Zone Jumps for a Breast Cancer Cure on October 27, 2016 from 4:00pm to 8:00pm is at Sky Zone’sBethlehem location.

Even if you are unable to donate or volunteer time, your support and awareness to the cause is just as important.  A healthy lifestyle, self-examinations and sharing your knowledge with family and friends will make a great impact.  Don’t forget to wear your pink or breast cancer ribbons to show your pride!
