Why Being Single On Valentines Day Is Awesome

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

Valentine’s Day: You either love it, hate it, or couldn’t care less about it. For all of the ladies out there who are riding solo, this article is dedicated to you. Since January 1st, the grocery store aisles have been flooded with Valentine’s Day merchandise, giving you a constant reminder that you are single.

Why do we dread that word? Single. Why are we so wrapped in the thought of having to date someone just around this one month of the year? You know what’s better than being in a relationship and having a boy spoil you on that one day a year? Being SINGLE! Here’s 15 reasons why being a free woman is freaking awesome:

1) There is absolutely no pressure in finding the “perfect gift” for Valentines Day.

2) All your money goes to yourself. ..and your bills.

3) You can watch whatever you want: no need to cooperate on television shows.

4) What’s for dinner? Whatever the hell you want!

5) You can talk to, be with, hang out with, and grab coffee with whoever you want.

6) What’s your main priority in life? You! You have your undivided attention, so be selfish and focus on yourself.

7) The fries you just ordered are ALL yours. No need to share.

8) The whole bed? Yeah, that’s all yours.

9) You don’t feel the need to have to text or call your significant other 24/7.

10) With that being said, you have WAY less stress.

11) Anyone can buy you a drink at the bar.

12) You don’t have to pretend to like his friends, or their girlfriends for that matter.

13) Having to shave your legs? Nope, no need to do that!

14) That whole “balance your boyfriend and friends” isn’t an issue that pertains to you.

15) Having the ability to stay out whenever, however late you want is the definition of a good time. No need to check in with someone every now and then.

Hey everyone! My name is Tabitha and I'm currently a junior at Indiana University of Pennsylvania. Growing up with a bodybuilding father and a twinkie/brownie loving mother, the topic of food always ricocheted off the walls in my home. Living with two people who followed two different lifestyles sparked an interest in food, which led to my passion of nutrition and choosing the major of Nutrition-Dietetics track. When I'm not online scoping out new recipes and health articles I can be seen lifting at the gym, online shopping on my porch, or enjoying dinner with some great friends.
