A list of ten pop songs from the ‘00’s that you need to listen to pronto. Have you ever been walking to class and are struggling with your desert-like playlist full of songs you always skip? I got your back girl, you’re welcome. Look up these songs, form a playlist, and try to hold back your dance moves.

1. Promiscuous – Nelly Furtado

This track by Nelly featuring Timberland is EVERYTHING!! We all wanted to be a promiscuous girl at one point or another. Siri where is the closest promiscuous boy, help a girl out! This song should definitely be featured in your top ten. Turn up the volume in your headphones and start walking!

“Promiscuous girl you’re teasing me you know what I want and I got what you need”

2. Cry Me A River – Justin Timberlake

I’m sure we all know these words by heart now, I mean come on this is one of the most popular JT songs and rightfully so. Yes it is a little slower but it is far from boring. Plus can we ask for better relationship advice! The moral of the song you ask? It pays to be honest. Btw who cheats on JT??

“Now you tell me you need me when you call me on the phone. Girl I refuse you must have me confused with some other guy. The bridges were burned, now it’s your turn to cry.”

3.  Gold Digger – Kanye West and Jamie Foxx

I slipped this in the number 3 spot because it’s more upbeat and energetic, precisely what you need when it’s blizzarding and you have to climb the Davis hill to get to the library. Bottom line it’s a great song to bump!

“Eighteen years, eighteen years. She got one of your kids got you for eighteen years. I know somebody paying child support for one of his kids. His baby momma car and crib is bigger than his.”

4. Unwritten – Natasha Bedingfield

Does this take anyone else back to watching The Hills, no one else, just me, okay. I like this song because it’s not super slow and boring and it has a great message! Especially at this age when we are trying to figure out how to adult, we’re bound to make mistakes. Natasha’s in our corner everyone. We can get through these years together.

“Drench yourself in words unspoken. Live your life with arms wide open.  Today is where your book begins. The rest is still unwritten.”

5. Damaged – Danity Kane

Let’s all take a minute to listen and reflect on this epic throwback. Some readers may not know who this girl group is, and if you find that that is you, open up your google tab and search them. I promise it’ll be worth your time. This is also a great song when you’re experiencing a recent breakup or even a really big fight with that man or woman in your life.

“You try to gain my trust. Talking is not enough.  Actions speak louder than words. You got to show me something.”

6. One, Two Step – Ciara

I’m positive we all remember the glorious music video that accompanies this song. Now if only we all could dance like Ciara. This song could also double on your “getting ready to go out” playlist because it tends to pump you up and make you want to dance. Now does everyone have their 1, 2 step down?

“Let me see ya, 1, 2 step. I love it when you 1, 2 step. Everybody 1, 2 step. We about to get it on.”

7. Work it – Missy Elliott

The previous song on the playlist has a feature by Missy and this one is a whole song so try to withhold your excitement. This song will easily give you a little pep in your step while you’re on your way to your 8 am. We can all learn from Missy and gain all the confidence in the world. You’re the best you that you can be so flaunt what you got girl!!

“Is it worth it, let me work it. I put my thing down, flip it, and reverse it.”

8. Independent Woman Pt. 1 – Destiny’s Child

This one is dedicated to all my single girls who can handle their life on their own. You’re an independent woman who doesn’t need a man. Go get ‘em! If you aren’t spewing with self-confidence by the end of this song you clearly didn’t listen to the song close enough.

“The shoes on my feet, the clothes I’m wearing, the rock I’m rocking, ‘cause I depend on me.”

9. Crazy – Gnarls Barkley

Yes this song is a little dated but oh my goodness the beat is amazing! Like the title suggests we can all get a little crazy every once in a while.  Sometimes we need to take a step back and just breathe. We all have our days and that’s nothing to be ashamed of. Even adults need their naps!

“Come on now, who do you, who do you, who do you think you are? Ha ha ha, bless your soul. You really think you’re in control.”

10. Beautiful – Christina Aguilera

To round off this playlist of walking around music, I snuck in this song by Ms. Aguilera because I think it’s an important lesson especially with a lot of women questioning their body and nit picking every aspect of their lives. We are all fantastic women and that should be emphasized! Let’s all be confident, amazing, beautiful, and intelligent woman, yeah? Okay.

“You are beautiful no matter what they say, words can’t bring you down, you are beautiful in every single way, yes words can’t bring you down. So don’t you bring me down today.”
