Tips on How to Be Productive

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

The mid-semester slump is real, especially coming back from Spring Break. Here are 7 tips to beat the procrastination and up your productivity!

1. Make a to-do list

This is the best way for me to not procrastinate my assignments and to stay on track. There’s no better feeling than being able to cross things off of your to-do-list.

2. Eat a good meal to give you energy

When I know I have work to get done, I try to eat a well-balanced meal so I’m fully energized. It’s also good to eat breakfast, even if it’s a granola bar or a piece of fruit. This way you’re not feeling sluggish during your classes.

3. Treat yourself

Although this contradicts #2, it’s okay to have a treat every once in awhile to reward yourself for finishing a paper or a big group project.

5. Scheduling classes

In high school, I was always tired no matter what time I went to bed or woke up. When I scheduled my classes for the Fall and Spring semester, I took this into consideration. My earliest class this school year is at 10:10. Sure, I’m still tired in the mornings, but I definitely feel more alert when my day starts later.

4. Go to bed at a reasonable time

It’s easier than it sounds. Especially when you stay up late studying for a big test. I’ll admit, I go to bed pretty late every night and wake up around 9 a.m. However, I’m still getting a full 8 hours of sleep and rarely feel tired during my classes.

5. Workout

Whether you go for a run at the gym or a walk around campus, you’re still doing physical activity. Once you get in the habit of working out, you’ll feel more energized and it’ll be easier to workout on a daily basis.

7. Music

Before I start studying, I listen to my favorite music to motivate me. Once I open up my textbook; however, I switch to classical or instrumental music. This way, I’m not focused on the lyrics, but I still have something to keep me going. There have been many studies on the benefits of listening to classical music and how it can help you concentrate.

8. Catch up on homework

If I have a day where I don’t have anything due for awhile, I still like to do an assignment or two. This way, I can focus on the assignment(s) and feel less pressure for having to get them done.

Hang in there ladies, summer will be here before we know it!
