Finals week is approaching; you know what that means… summer is around the corner. I remember when I used to get upset about the semester coming to an end meanwhile everyone else was so excited to go back home. Returning back home to your parent’s house for three months for summer vacation after living as an adult at college can be a big change for some students. For me I was most upset about not being in my own apartment anymore, not being close to my college friends who lived hours away and having to respect your parent’s rules while under their roof. Also, I consider my hometown to be the most boring place and there is absolutely nothing exciting to do. At least at college you can walk right over to your friend’s dorm or go to a little get together off campus; I will always stick by the saying that college boredom is more fun than home boredom.

As this summer is approaching I could not be more excited to return home and begin my fun. I have to suggest to everyone the best thing you can do for yourself is to make a bucket list. You can make a life bucket list or just a small bucket list to complete over the summer and take up some of your free time; either is just as fun and eventful. Other than the fact that I will be moving to Washington, D.C at the end of May to complete an internship, I am looking forward to all of this traveling that I have planned for the summer and activities that I can cross off my bucket list. Here is a sneak peak of my top most interesting things on my bucket list.

  • Go skydiving
  • Go cliff jumping (I jumped off of a cliff before but I want to go “real” cliff jumping into clear, blue water)
  • Travel to Chicago and visit the Skydeck (103rd floor of the former Sears Tower with clear observation boxes & views extending to four states) You can step out onto “The Ledge” which is a glass floor balcony with 1.5-inch-thick glass where you view the streets of Chicago.
  • Travel to an island (maybe Punta Cana, but any island will do!)
  • Go on a cruise
  • Become familiar with D.C while I am living there. (Visit all of the museums and monuments)
  • Make a difference in the community/youth
  • Start a fundraiser
  • Go snorkeling
  • Swim with dolphins

It is that simple. Think of fun activities that you want to do while you are still here on this beautiful earth and try your best to complete them. I believe that it is very important to experience life and travel. Travel, travel, travel! And then travel some more. There is no fun in staying in the same city or hometown your entire life. In order to make memories, open your eyes to new things and experience different cultures and customs it is necessary to travel the world so that you can see it with your own eyes. Some things to add to your summer bucket list can include taking a road trip with your best friends, attend a musical festival (Made in America is a MUST), go thrifting, have a picnic, tie-dye some old/worn out clothes, volunteer, do a fun photoshoot with your friends, and most importantly try something new that you never tried before. Do you really want to live to get old and then say, “I wish I would have done…” or do you want to live, get old and be that cool parent that can say, “I went skydiving before,” YOLO. You only live once. Live it up!
