As we approach mid-terms we all need a refresh (I do, at least). Even if you are going on a trip or you are just staying home, here are some things you need to do for yourself. You are your caretaker and your soul needs a break sometimes as well.

Sleep

I don’t know about you, but I go to bed at 2 am every night. With that being said, my sleep schedule is TERRIBLE. Definitely get some rest, you need to sleep to recharge for the rest of the semester. This is a break for YOU and should not be stressful or demanding. Please give yourself some time for your body and mental health to have a break. It will drown you if you take too much.

Have fun

This is a break from the serious stuff. Have fun. I don’t mean dancing on the bar tables (unless that is fun for you lol), I mean do something that you actually love doing and would make you feel better. If you are outdoorsy, go hiking. If you are a homebody, stay in with friends (your mom) and watch movies. Do what YOU like to do. This is a break so you have to come back to the stressors eventually not bring them with you!

Talk with your loved ones

Even though I go home every week I still miss my family and dog so much. This is a good time to be able to spend a lot of time with them, bond, rejuvenate that sense of safety that they give you, and hold onto these times. You don’t know where you will be after you graduate, make sure you don’t spend the time with them on your phone or ignore them. You only have one whole family and once they are gone you cannot take away the mistakes that you have made.

Alicia is an aspiring doctor. She intends to graduate from IUP in 2022 and attend Medical School directly after to become a medical doctor specializing in pediatrics. She enjoys watching movies, hanging with friends, and community service. She is a dog lover and has a pug names Porky that makes her smile on her worst days. Family is everything to her as you probably have read.
