Joggers: Trending New Pants

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

The New Pants in Town:

Jeggings. High-waisted jeans. Lace shorts. Rompers. Leggings. Harem pants. Overalls.

The young adult fashion scene has seen a lot of trouser trends in the past few years, and the next big thing has arrived just in time.

Lovers of chicness and coziness alike, say hello to the Jogger!

Joggers are the best of both worlds. They have the comfort and ease of a pair of sweatpants with the simplicity and cuteness of leggings. They come in a variety of patterns, textures, and styles, from soft, ankle-length prints to denim capris. You can even find them as shorts! A lot of joggers will roll up to anywhere from knee height to ankle length. And the best part? They have pockets!

Collegiettes, I was skeptical about this new fad when I first started seeing it around in magazines and Pinterest. I’ve never been one to wear sweats in public, because I personally don’t like to be underdressed. I also was not a huge fan of the gathered-ankle look that many joggers have. Years of wearing windbreaker-material track pants with elasticized ankles in elementary school had been enough for me to wave goodbye to that lovely style. But suddenly, trendy sweats to wear around the community? I wasn’t buying it.

Now, I am a changed woman. I am now the proud owner of six pairs of joggers, both patterned and plain. I have a denim pair for when I don’t feel like wearing jeans. I have pairs to wear with solid v-necks for when I want to look cute (and still have a range of movement that I don’t get from jeans). I have pairs for when I want to lie in bed for six hours and scroll through Twitter. I even have one pair that does double-duty! (Seriously, what did we do before we decided that black-and-white was a neutral?) I love that I still feel put-together when I wear them, without sacrificing comfort. Running late to an 8 am? Joggers. Doing yoga? Joggers. Feeling lazy? Joggers. Doing five miles on the elliptical? Joggers. Want to look cute? Joggers. Dancing? Joggers. Feeling like a babe? Joggers.

If you’re looking to be cute and comfortable, find the joggers near you!
