Five Cheap Last-Minute DIY Halloween Decorations for Under $10

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

Halloween is right around the corner, which means everyone is finishing up getting their costumes ready and doing any last-minute decorating. If you are either a huge procrastinator, on a tight budget, or both and haven’t had the time to even start decorating yet, you have nothing to fear. With these easy and budget friendly decorations, you will be ready for the fun and spookiness to begin.

1. The Pumpkin Cooler

This is the perfect way to keep drinks cool if you are planning a Halloween party. To make this cooler, buy a fairly decent-sized pumpkin, cut the top of the pumpkin off and hollow it out. Fill the pumpkin with ice and add in your beverages! If wanted, add a glass bowl that fits inside the pumpkin. Add in ice and your favorite beverages and you’re all set!

2. Petrified Jar Specimens

For this, grab various mason jars and vases. You can even use stuff from around your place or go to a Dollar Store for them. Fill the jars with water and food dye. Typically, yellows, greens, oranges and light brown food dyes look creepy. Once the jars are filled, add fake bugs, eyeballs or fake dark flowers, all items you can score for cheap at the craft store!

3. DIY Halloween Wreath

Another enjoyable Halloween party decoration is a pumpkin wreath that will welcome guests as they come through. This is easy to make and doesn’t require any hot glue or crafting skill level of any kind. Head to your local craft store. Grab yourself a pre-made twig wreath and a packaged spider web. When assembling, cut the web, as you will only be using about 1/4 of it (hang the rest throughout the house). Stretch the web over the bottom half of the wreath. When webbing, remember: less is more. Thin it out as much as possible. Feel free to also add plastic spiders or eyeballs as an extra ‘ew’ effect!

4. Pumpkin Centerpiece

Pumpkins are a huge part of Halloween and frankly, it just isn’t Halloween without them. Use one as a centerpiece for your snacks or beverages table. To make this centerpiece, use a vase and grab a bunch of twigs from your backyard. Throw those bad boys in the vase and this craft is already almost done! Add in miniature plastic pumpkins and print out a variety of crows and/or owls silhouettes. Then, glue/tape your woodland creatures onto the branches.

5. Mummy Mason Jars

If you’re already a crafty person, then you know Mason jars are your best friends. You can transform them into anything you want that you didn’t think possible. For this, you’ll need some glue, mason jars, googly eyes, and gauze wrap. Glue a line about the width of the gauze, and place gauze on glue. Next, start wrapping the gauze around the mason jar, gluing when you think necessary. Leave a little space open for the googly eyes. Once the mason jar is all wrapped up, glue on the googly eyes and you’re all done! Add a battery-operated tea light to take the spooky up a notch.

Hope everyone has a fantastic Halloween!!
