Chipo Muronda, Humanitarian

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at IUP chapter.

This week’s Campus Celebrity is Chipo Muronda, a junior in the Human Resource and Management department at IUP. If you looked up the definition of humanitarian, you would see just how much of one Chipo is. Without fail, she tries to find ways to help others in their time of need. Whether it be from sitting down and listening or joining clubs to help make a difference in her world, Chipo helps others find their voice when nobody will listen.

Her passion for choosing Human Resource Management the following: “When employers look for someone to hire, they usually go for the person who is upbeat, elated, but never for the shy and quiet one. They usually go for the person who keeps on talking, bragging about their accomplishments or just talking about themselves, but they never listen to the little person. They believe that the little, quiet person who is too shy to even look them in the eyes will slow them down and probably destroy their company. Yet, it is not always like that; it’s the shy one who eventually finds their voice and pushes the company forward while the one who is giddy and happy is screwing the company over. I want to be the person who helps the shy person find their voice.”

This is motto she has lived by throughout her college career. Chipo joined the National Honor Society in hopes of finding ways to start networking and building herself with people from different majors and with complex minds. She works at a non-profit organization called United Way to learn the skills she will need to work with those who are have trouble talking and expressing themselves. She uses those skills in real life with her friends, family members, and sometimes herself. “How can you help better someone when you can’t look at yourself in the mirror?”
