As the weather starts to change, the leaves begin to fall, and the air gets cool and crisp, it’s inevitable that all you want to do is sprawl out on your couch nestled in blankets and watch mindless television. To me, Halloween movies are one of the very best parts of fall. I put together a list of some of my favorite films that I consistently watch every year around this time, so make some time to watch at least one of these classics. It’s time to get spooky, people.

1. Good Will Hunting (1997)- This first one isn’t a horror story, but if you have not seen it, add it to your list. Robin Williams and Matt Damon are impeccable in this beloved Indie/Drama, and the story-line is incredible. Be prepared to cry, though.

2. Hocus Pocus (1993)- If you haven’t already seen Hocus Pocus, do yourself a favor. A black cat, 3 witches, and a cauldron, what more could you want? Superstitious, funny, AND it takes place in Salem, Massachusetts.

3. Halloweentown (1998)- Nothing like re-living your childhood than watching Halloweentown. If nothing else, you’ll at least get to reminisce on the good old days watching Disney Channel.

4. Practical Magic (1998)- Another witchy, magic-filled, superstitious movie with Sandra Bullock and Nicole Kidman.

5. Halloween (1978)- After murdering his own sister on Halloween, Michael Myers comes back to Haddonfield fifteen years later to finish what he started. This was also Jamie Lee Curtis’ first film debut, and she’ll also be returning to the screen in the 2018 re-make of Halloween, so you have to watch the original before you go see the new one. Laurie Strode is one fearless chick.

6. Scream (1996)- A 90’s slasher movie, directed by Wes Craven; what more could you want?

7. Scary Movie (2000)- A much less gloomy, gory, movie and a lot more laughs and crude humor. If you are not into horror movies, this is the one for you.

8. The Strangers (2008)- A horror movie you don’t want to watch alone, especially if you live alone and have a fear of being tortured and terrorized by people with masks.

9. The Craft (1996)- Three high-school wannabe witches with vengeance and questionable motives, plus a friend with “telekinesis,” what could go wrong?

10. Friday the 13th (1980)- Take a ride down memory lane at Camp Crystal Lake with a psychotic killer stalking you and your friends. This classic slasher movie went on to comprise twelve other slasher films, tv shows, books, video games and more.

Now go grab your favorite fuzzy blanket, light a fall-scented candle, and get cozy with these classic fall films and don’t forget your treats!
