Sidney Madden Blogs from the DNC Part 3

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

HC Hofstra Campus Correspondent Sidney Madden continues to blog about her experience at the 2012 Democratic National Convention.

Part 3: “Its Ok…I’m with The Press”

Hi girls and guys! I’m halfway through Day 5 of the seminar. With time flying and my multi-tasking skills being kicked into high gear, I have a lot to inform you of.
For those of you just joining me on the journey, I am documenting my time spent as a Hofstra sponsored participant for The Washington Center at the Democratic National Convention in Charlotte,
NC. The energy in Charlotte is starting to become more bustling and electric. We see more and more news outlets, delegates and volunteers every day and we’re right in the thick of it.
Today I finally received my fieldwork placement (where I’ll be working during the convention) and I couldn’t be more excited! I will be assisting and contributing to Dallas Morning News, one of the 20 largest circulated papers in the United States. With over 260,000 subscribers in the Dallas metropolitan area and nine Pulitzer Awards for reporting and photography under their belt, needless to say they’re kind of a big deal. Working for DMN is a collegiette journalist’s dream—and I’m lucky enough to be a part of the dream team! I was chosen for this fieldwork spot along with Jacob Nadeau from Quinnipiac University and Khoury Johnson from Temple University because of my reporting experience and numerous clips. (see, writing for HC pays off, collegiettes)
I’m excited to start and to be considered a real member of the press—as Marshall McLuhan said “the medium is the message”.
As contributors, we have press passes, otherwise known as “credentials”, to be in the Charlotte Convention Center and will hopefully have a press box for all the major speeches including Bill Clinton, Caroline Kennedy, Eva Longoria and of course President Barack Obama!
Once I start, blog posts will be shorter and more scattered, but rest assured, I will be constantly updating my Hofstra collegiettes on Twitter at @Sid_Madden. Stay tuned to stay informed! HCXO
