14 Goals You Can Accomplish in the Last 4 Weeks of School

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Hofstra chapter.

We’re in the final stretch of the semester, collegiettes. And with the warm weather teaser last week, many students have started to feel the symptoms of spring fever. Stay focused! Although you may have written off these last few weeks as “the semester being over” and the sunshine may work like a field of poppies in the Wizard of Oz, there are still many things to accomplish as we close out Spring 2013.

1) Land a Summer Internship

Still haven’t heard back from the countless summer internships you’ve applied to? Now is the time to assert yourself. Find the people who could be your potential bosses on LinkedIn. If you have a website, promote it on social media. You can even do some extra detective work and email the workers directly.

2) Start a Workout Regime

Its never too late to get a head start on your summer beach body. And with the weather warming up, Hofstra has tons of intermural fields and bike paths. For some essential workout tips, check here.

3) Make or Break a Habit

You know how the old saying “it takes only three weeks to make or break a habit”? Well, if you start now, you get an extra week to internalize. Whether it be quitting smoking, reading before bed or just drinking more water, start small and pretty soon, it will become second nature.

4) Finish Up Your Internship Strong

If you’ve been interning this spring (like our Intern Diaries blogger, Katie Day), you’re either sad to leave your employer or overjoyed that you won’t have to brave the morning commute anymore. Remember to thank you advisor for the learning opportunity, connect with them on LinkedIn for future networking, and even write a few thank you notes to people who’ve helped you out on the job.

5) Attend a Campus Event

Campus is booming with cheap and free events come Spring. Explore Next Door has trips to the Bronx Zoo and The Museum of Modern Art lined up, the play Five Women Wearing the Same Dress is being put on by Hofstra’s own Drama and Dance Department as well as the Spring Dance Concert taking place April 25th to the 28th. Chabad on Campus is hosting a free Falafel Fest and BSU will host a concert and party entitled “Bacchanal” this Saturday at Hofstra USA. This list goes on so get involved now.

6) Walk in Relay for Life

One of Hofstra’s biggest fundraisers, just about every club and organization gets involved in the all night relay against cancer. In it’s sixth annual year, the school as a whole has raised over $40,000 so far. Grab your tent and jump on a team before the April 27th.

7) Get an e-board position

Not matter what club or organization you are a pert of, showing initiative with four weeks left will exhibit leadership qualities during crunch time. Help out more, doing tasks large and small and your name will be remembered during e-board elections.

8) Go to a formal

Every sorority and fraternity as well as large organizations like WHRU and Hofstra BSU hold formals every year. It’s a chance to look elegant, take way too many pictures, and celebrate the success of your year.

9) Study outside in the Quad

Study being the operative word, there’s no reason to avoid the nice weather while getting ready for class. Find a nice tree or bench or just claim some grassy real estate with your friends. Just remember to stay focused.

10) Attend a Hofstra sports event

Get your pride one! Even though some of us have mentally checked out, Hofstra baseball, softball and lacrosse are still in full swing. Check out the Hofstra Chronicle or GoHofstra.com for game schedules.

11) Prepare for Finals

“Plan your work and work your plan”. The best way to study is to know how to handle your workload. Maybe you need redeem yourself from a poor midterm or have three final papers all due on the same day. Music or silence, study groups or solitary, early morning or late night. Figure out what works best for you according to the work you have. Then all that’s left is grab some study snacks and get to it.

12) Get tickets to your favorite summer concerts or festivals

Just because we’re still in school doesn’t mean you can’t plan for future fun, right? Bonnaroo Festival, Governor’s Ball, I Heart Radio, Summer Jam, and Country Fest all have huge headliners this year and tickets, although pricey, are still on sale.  If you’re staying in New York for the summer, My Free Concert has your hook up on the best free concerts, festivals and free food events in the city. Check their tweets and website for daily blasts on the latest deals.

13) Meet with your favorite professors

Out of hundreds of students, the easiest way to stand out is to show initiative. If you’ve really enjoyed a certain class this semester, ask that professor to coffee to talk about the subject further or even ask for career advice.

14) Go to graduation

Yes, everyone is annoyed they decided to split up the graduation in terms of schools this year. But nonetheless, Sunday May 19, 2013 is looking to be a beautiful day of celebration. Congratulations to the Class of 2013!
