Three Date Outfits That Won’t Scare Him

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at George Mason University chapter.

College girls tend to dress for themselves and other girls. Of course we want guys to notice us, but we’re more focused on following trends that make us feel up-to-date and earn us compliments from female peers. Usually this works out perfectly fine, and a stray venture into the odd fad won’t make or break a budding relationship. On a first date, however, some trends are best kept understated. Below are three looks that will make you feel magazine-worthy, but won’t scare that cutie away…

Day Date

The day date is a fun occasion that requires a wardrobe that balances sexy and cute. While prints are a fun way to jazz up an outfit, they scare guys if embraced too enthusiastically. Instead of a bold geometric legging or sweater, go for a small polka dot print in solid denim and a plain, breezy top. In order to keep the focus of the outfit on the print, accessorize with flirty bracelets and pumps in the same color family as the top and choose a large, neutral hobo to hold necessities for your mid-date freshening. Classic Date

Less difficult to navigate than the day date, the classic evening date can still pose problems for the girl who tries to be overtly sexy. While a backless mini-dress or plunging neckline might seem like great options, they can allude to desperation if they fit poorly or the venue is inappropriate. Instead, choose a dress that shows off your neck. The female neck is incredibly alluring, and you can guarantee he will get a good look at it throughout dinner without feeling like a jerk for gazing too low. Simple dresses allow for fun accessories, so jump on the color block trend for fun pieces that pop. (All of the products below can be found at Asos.com.)

Concert Date

If you find yourself going to an outdoor concert for a first date this spring, you’ll have a little more freedom to experiment because your guy is likely a bit more wild at heart. Go for a fun trend like cropped overalls or suspenders, but keep the focus of your outfit elsewhere with a funky necklace or an in-your-face statement top. Let your personality show with some neon sneakers, but keep your jacket and sunglasses neutral so that you don’t overwhelm your man. Overall, make sure you don’t forget about sex appeal! While you should keep your look carefree, make sure the silhouette is suited to your body and that you keep your hair and makeup tamed.
