Things We Will Actually Miss This Summer

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at George Mason University chapter.

It’s safe to say we won’t miss the wifi (or lack thereof), the freezing cold walks across campus for 85% of the year, or the quest for a decent parking spot. It may be hard to admit, but there are some things a summer away from Mason will have us feeling deprived of.

The GMU SquirrelsThey just get us. Minus the bushy tails and unconventional hangout spots, we’re more alike than one would think.

The Patriot CenterWhen we return in the fall the entertainment center of campus will don a new name! From freshmen orientation events, homecoming games, some awesome celebrity concerts, and eventually graduation the Patriot Center has been the biggest pride hub on campus. Though only the name is changing, it’ll still be a little something to be missed. Of course, we’ll all still be calling it by it’s former title – everyone except for the freshmen at least!

Pilot House and Rob, but mostly RobDo not underestimate the chances of randomly craving a Pilot House masterpiece some time in the middle of July. Even more so, who isn’t going to miss Rob?! Delivering perfect customer service with a side of motivational words for finals week – it just doesn’t get any better.

Having our Friends at our FingertipsWhether your best friend is your roommate, in the next building over, or a short five minute walk across campus all of these options are better than being across the state or countr from each other in the months to come. There’s nothing better than being able to send a spontaneous “I’m coming over” text and having anytime access to the people you’ve grown the closest with. Sure, in real life your best friend isn’t going to always be next door but college has spoiled us!

Constant Freebies

Once again college has given us false advertising of the real world! Only at Mason can you just be minding your business walking to class and receive free food, t-shirts, energy drinks and more. All of which are things we could totally use thrown at us at any given time this summer. Not to mention the many kind gestures like the #GMUSpreadTheHappiness campaign that passed around flowers anonymously to brighten people’s day before finals week. Yeah, we’re gonna miss our overly-giving school. Luckily fall semester means a reboot bigger and better freebies!
