Summer Reads for 2019

If you are like me, I LOVE to read but can never find time during the school year. We are so busy reading textbooks and essays that we don't have time to read for fun. Summer is the time where I can cram in all of the novels and biographies that I've been meaning to read but never got the chance. Here are some summer reading essentials if you haven’t been able to catch up with the latest books, like me!

1. "Becoming" by Michelle Obama

This memoir by former First Lady Michelle Obama is the perfect summer read! In this book Michelle Obama talks about her past, finding her voice, and what life was like living in the White House.

2. "The Hate You Give" by Angie Thomas

This book is about a 16-year-old girl and the events that occur in her life that draw her to activism after experiencing the death of a childhood friend. If you haven't already seen the movie, definitely give this a read first! It is an amazing and very important novel.

3. "My Own Words" by Ruth Bader Ginsburg

This is a book by Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg. It is a collection of her speeches and writings that date back to the eighth grade.

4. "The Sun is Also a Star" by Nicola Yoon

This book is a love story written by the same author that gave us Everything, Everything. This novel is being made into a movie and I highly encourage you to read this before seeing the film as well!

5. "50 Political Classics" by Tom Butler-Bowdon

This book includes other books, pamphlets and speeches from major leaders and great minds in history. If you are just as into politics as I am, this is a great read for those summer nights.

6. "Little Women" by Louisa May Alcott

This classic is being created in film form yet again! If you haven't read it yet, definitely read it this summer before the movie comes out at the end of 2019!
