On the Rise: Lizzy Benedetto

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at George Mason University chapter.

Elizabeth Benedetto, or Lizzy Benedetto has excelled not only as a student but as an athlete during her time here at George Mason. Her kindness and service to others does not go unnoticed and the impact she has on others is admirable. She is currently the goalie for GMU lacrosse and in 2016 she played 16 games, making 12 starts and was name to Atlantic 10 Conference All-Rookie Team. She finished the year with just allowing 7.84 goals against average for the lowest GAA in a single season in program history!  This year Benedetto was named the A-10 Defensive Player of the Week and has only continued to impress as the season progresses. On top of keeping a hectic student athlete schedule she also manages to be the President of GMU Noteworthy Women’s Acapella group, be sure to check them out and support her!  Lizzy is an amazing role model of a woman who has balanced the crazy lifestyle of a college student on top of succeeding in so many areas of her life- read below to get to know her more!

1. What is your year and major?

Sophomore, Criminology Major, Minor in Intelligence Analysis

2. Where are you from?

Fairfax, VA

3. What has been your favorite Mason memory so far?

My favorite Mason memory was performing for the first time with my Acappella group because I had never done anything like it before. I have been in choir and band before so I have had performances but performing Acapella with a bunch of your closest friends is a completely different feeling.

4. What advice can you give to the incoming freshman class?

I would tell incoming freshman not to take their first year for granted, do well in the easier classes so you have room to make mistakes in the harder ones.

5.What is your favorite quote?

My favorite quote is “When you want to succeed as bad as you want to breath, that is when you will be successful” – Eric Thomas

6. Who is your hero and why?

My hero is my dad because he has sacrificed so much for my sisters and me when we were growing up, and to this day he still puts us first in his life above everything.

7. How did you get into lacrosse?

When I was growing up all my friends at the time were either playing lacrosse or soccer and since I had already tried playing soccer, I decided to play lacrosse. But I became a goalie when half way through a lacrosse game, in 5th grade, our goalie quit and since I was the same size as her they put me in gear and I never looked back.

8.What are you involved in on campus?

I am President of Noteworthy Women’s Acapella Group-the one and only women’s a cappella group at George Mason University. We perform contemporary acappella arrangements around the GMU campus and Fairfax area.

9.What is your dream/where do you see yourself in 10 years?

I see myself as a detective for a police department in 10 years (hopefully).

10.What is a secret talent?

My secret talent is that I can ride a unicycle.

11. Is there anything else you want to add?

I just really want to say how much I appreciate my parents, my team, and my coaches for everything they have done in getting me to this point of success in my life-thank you!

Be sure to check out the women’s lacrosse at home against George Washington on April 13th-and follow Noteworthy’s for their upcoming events!
