Campus Celebrity: Brenna Connell

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at George Mason University chapter.

Student Athlete’s don’t always receive the credit they deserve. On top of rigorous school work, practice and game schedules they also manage to balance out their social lives. This week’s campus celebrity is Brenna Connell, a member of the George Mason University Women’s Soccer Team.  Brenna has made an incredible contribution to not only the soccer team but to George Mason as a whole. When I first spoke to Brenna the first thing that stood out to me was the sincerity in her eyes and the kindness she radiated. Brenna is so deserving for this week’s campus profile because of the positivity she brings into all facets of her life. Brenna’s beauty not only radiates from her outward appearance but from within. She is no doubt one of the nicest, loyal and fun loving girl you will ever meet. Read below to get to know her a little better!

1. What year are you and what is your major? I’m a junior, and a forensic science major. It’s not as cool as CSI

2. Where are you from? I’m from Olney, Maryland

3. Why did you start playing soccer and has it always been your dream to pursue it in a college career? My dad introduced me to soccer when I was 4. I’ve always wanted to play in college

4. How did you end up playing soccer for Mason and what is your position? I didn’t get into my first choice university, and in the spring of my senior year I received an offer from Mason to join the program as a walk-on. My position is a midfielder/forward.

5. What has been the greatest difficulty in becoming and being a D1 athlete? The greatest difficulty in becoming a D1 athlete was trying to stand out among so many good players looking to play in college (most of whom were a lot taller than me). The hardest thing about being a D1 athlete now is finding time to work on improving individual skill, since practices are focused on team development.

6. What advice would you give to an aspiring D1 athlete? I would tell aspiring D1 athletes to learn to focus on and enjoy the process. And to stretch/ice.

7. What is your favorite quote? One of my favorite quotes is “Imperfection is beauty”

8. Where do you see yourself in 10 years? I’m not sure where I see myself in 10 years. Hopefully not still in college

9. What is guilty pleasure tv show? My guilty pleasure TV show is…Gilmore Girls

10. What is your favorite thing about Mason? I would say the location near DC and the people I’ve met here.

smile emoticon

11. What are you most thankful for? I’m thankful for the little things I can take for granted, and for getting to pursue high level soccer all these years.

12. Who is your celebrity and why? My favorite celebrity is Jeffrey Donovan, from the TV show Burn Notice, because he’s funny, handsome, and does his own stunts. I don’t think he plays soccer though…
