There are few things that help me destress and focus in life and essential oils are definitely at the top of that list. Especially during midterms, essential oils have been quite literally essential to my sanity. From cleaning, to skincare, to aromatherapy, there is an essential oil for just about everything. Keep in mind, Etsy has decently affordable essential oils and you can build up a collection over time. Here are some of my favorite essential oil hacks.

1. Diffusing lavender before bed

This one may seem pretty self-explanatory, but once you try it you will never go back. Lavender oil is known to have sedative properties that if you’re like me and find your mind racing when you try to sleep, help to ease the day to night transition. Now, whenever I smell lavender my mind instantly associates it with rest.

2. Clove for muscle pains

If you have the misfortune of menstruating during midterms, clove oil has your back. You can dilute this oil with a carrier oil, I like to use vitamin E oil, and apply it directly to your abdomen. Clove oil is excellent for any muscle pains.

3. Using eucalyptus oil on pressure points

Eucalyptus oil is a calming agent that I love to use when I study or work. I like to apply a roll-on oil on pressure points, the inside of my wrists and under my ears are my go tos. I will even put some directly under my nose.

4. Misting houseplants with peppermint

This is a different one, but I had an upsetting discovery of bugs in my blue star fern a few days ago. After doing some research, I found that misting your plants with a few drops of peppermint oil and warm water in a spray bottle helps to keep bugs at bay. I noticed they were gone within a few days.

5. Making an at-home dry skin remedy with tea tree

I have psoriasis and eczema on my scalp and felt as though I was constantly in a state of discomfort or even pain before trying this trick. Before I wash my hair, I will let a mixture of a few drops of tea tree oil and olive oil (any oil is fine to use) sit in on my scalp and hair for about an hour. This is easily one of my favorite tricks for anywhere I have psoriasis as it takes away symptoms of itching almost instantly.

6. Cleaning with lemongrass

Lemongrass is a great natural disinfectant. Make your own cleaning spray at home that smells better and is less expensive.

I have really enjoyed learning more about essential oils in recent years and slowly decreasing the number of chemicals that I use in my daily life. I hope these tips help you destress and feel good, collegiettes.
