3 Black Owned Products You Should Add to Your Self Care Routine!

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at George Mason University chapter.

Here I have put together the ultimate self-care package, might I add that they’re all black owned. This is a special dedication to all my curly, kinky and coily collegiettes! Looking for new additions of body butters and facial products for your skin care routine? No worries, I listed everything you need down below.

1. Bomba Curls

Bomba Curls is a freshly new natural hair company founded by Lulu Cordero. As the company continues to expand, they are currently known for their Dominican Forbidden Oil and Dominican Forbidden Hair Mask. This duo is a dangerously good combination and a perfect addition to your self-care routine. The Dominican Forbidden Oil not only hydrates your hair but it leaves it with a coffee aroma that I absolutely adore. This coffee aroma actually comes from pure coffee seed oil which is infused in this oil. Along with the Pure coffee seed oil, castor oil is also infused in this product to help stimulate hair growth. This oil is great for hot oil treatments, sealing moisture or simply helping reduce frizz from your gorgeous natural hairstyle!

Jay-Z and Beyonce said it best,“What’s better than one billionaire? Two.” For the ultimate self-care that you deserve; you need the Forbidden Oil’s better half, the Forbidden Hair Mask. The key ingredient in this hair mask is pistachio oil. Pistachio Oil also helps with hair growth but it also prevents split ends. These products at Bomba Curls are cruelty free and made only with organic ingredients. These two products make wash day so easy and most importantly relaxing! Bomba Curls is for kinky, curly, wavy and coily hair textures. From personal experience I give both products tens across the board! For my curly collegiettes who need a study break; a hot oil treatment and hair mask from Bomba Curls will do the trick!

2. Fenty Skin

This boss babe, Robyn Fenty, better known as Rihanna, has recently launched a skincare line over the summer called Fenty Skin. As much as we all want music, RiRi has yet again given us another well constructed set of products. Fenty Skin consists of three products; the Total Cleans’r, Fat Water, and Hydra Vizor. These products were designed to help with dry and oily skin types.  If you’re anything like me and have combination skin, this is a real gem. All of Fenty Skin products are vegan, cruelty free, and gluten free.

To get started you’re going to want to use the Total Cleans’r. This cleanser not only removes dirt and oil but it also works as a perfect makeup remover. Say goodbye to makeup wipes and hello to this creamy lather that is the Total Cleans’r. What I love the most about this cleanser, is how it doesn’t strip away or dry the skin. Your next step is to use Fenty Skin’s toner, which Rihanna calls  Fat Water. This toner serum focuses on refining your pores, dark spots and helps with shine without harsh stripping of the skin. The final step is using my personal favorite, Hydra Vizor. The Hydra Vizor is a very lightweight moisturizer that also happens to be a sunscreen with 30 SPF. Hydra Vizor is that finishing touch, your skin care routine deserves leaving you with a natural, radiant glow. These products can be bought separately but are also available to purchase as one set on Fenty Beauty’s website. After a long day of zoom classes treat yourself to a much needed facial!

3. Yadain Cultural Solutions LLC

I am a huge lover of all things natural and as a black woman, all things black owned. Yadain Cultural Solutions LLC produces exactly that and was founded by Haneef Trace. His business originally started in Harlem, New York and now has locations in my city of Philadelphia, New Jersey and the Delaware area. Soon as you enter Yadain Cultural Solutions LLC, you’re instantly hit with the refreshing smell of natural remedies. To name a few, this company has body butters, natural hair products, and various body scrubs.

Each product is handcrafted quite literally by two hands — which is what Yadain translates to in Arabic. Creating natural and organic ingredient recipes is their specialty. These products will leave your hair and body well moisturized not to mention smelling absolutely amazing! My personal favorite is a whipped body butter called Be Me. Taking my daily shower is one of the highlights of my day. It’s nothing like exiting a steamy shower and applying your favorite body butter, leaving your skin well hydrated and soft. Yadain Cultural Solutions are expanding and nothing but greatness will be produced! If Yadain Cultural Solutions LLC is not in a region near you, don’t worry, here is a link to their website

Remember it’s the little things that count! Self-Care is important, nothing compares to being in a state of bliss. So, let’s show some love to these amazing black own, self-care products. I promise you’ll fall in love!
