9 Things Only Girls with Short Hair Understand

This article is written by a student writer from the Her Campus at Drexel chapter.

Having short hair is something that you should definitely try out if you’re considering it. Check out this article for the reasons why! However, just know that short hair isn’t always as easy to deal with as you might think. Here are some of the day-to-day hardships that girls with short hair have to face.

1. You can’t cover up a bad hair day with a ponytail.

You get what you get and you have to make it work.

2. You have to get it cut. ALL. THE. TIME.

We’re talking every four weeks.

3. Your ears always get cold when it’s windy outside.

Invest in a hat.

4. People constantly confuse you with other girls with short hair.

“Oh, you two look so alike!” … Nope, we just have the same hairstyle.

5. People make assumptions about your sexual orientation.

As if hair has anything to do with who you’re attracted to …

6. You’ve been asked if you’re a boy or a girl on multiple occasions.

What a great question to hear from a complete stranger!

7. Most of those cute hair accessories don’t work with your cut.

That gold-plated ponytail holder may be pretty, but it certainly won’t do any good for you.

8. There’s fewer options for styling your hair.

No fancy up-do for formals.

9. If you decide to grow it out, you have to worry about the awkward in-between lengths.

It’s not quite a bob, not quite a pixie cut.

Short hair is great in so many ways, but it can have its downsides. While others are complimenting your unique cut, you sometimes find yourself wondering if you should grow it out again. What we can learn from this is to appreciate whatever style of hair we have, because no matter what, the grass will always seem greener on the other side!
