Chris with his family after the probate last weekend.

Whether you were at last week’s probate or not, you’re probably wondering about the latest studmuffin to join Alpha Phi Alpha. I was excited to meet him, but a bit nervous about conducting my first Campus Cutie interview. However, as soon as he sat down with me, with his huge smile and a t-shirt that read “Happy Holidays” in April, I felt instantly comfortable. Turns out it was a long day for Chris. After only joining his fraternity a week ago, he signed up for two shifts of getting smacked in the face with pies for March of Dimes. He told me it was “fun the first couple of times. Then I couldn’t see, couldn’t hear. But, it’s for the babies.” After the morning excitement, he wasn’t exactly sure what to expect from this interview. “Does this mean I’m cute?” After getting to know him better, I’m sure the whole campus will join in on a collective “YES!”

On joining Alpha Phi Alpha: “They were some of the first guys I got to know on campus. I looked into their values, and it was something I was in line with. A lot of successful people came from this fraternity. Whatever I do with my life, I know I want to be successful. To be among their company is really cool.”

Best part of his fraternity so far: “Obviously, I got to know them before I joined. But, now, getting to know people individually and interacting with them on a daily basis.”

Dream job: “I would probably be the owner of a pro basketball team – the Hawks. Every once in a while I’d play. I’m a true fan. When I own the team, I’ll ensure we stay the best team – by playing.”

Secret Talent: “I can…people don’t know this. I’m a pretty good artist. Digital media, making videos. In high school, that was what I was into, making videos. I’m not the best drawer, but I love doing it.”

Favorite track event: “Triple Jump”

Favorite part of Track at Davidson: “It’s definitely been, I know this is cliché, but knowing the guys. Juice, Sunshine, X – they are all different. I don’t think I would’ve met those guys if I hadn’t done track.”

And he’s got some great Track stories: “Here’s a daily interaction. I’m bald so I’ve worn my bucket hat for a long time. One time Sarge took a picture of me. We like to put it next to things to compare. Yesterday, when I got back to Davidson from a meet, someone asked ‘Can you fix that?’”

Don’t forget to give him some peaches.

Currently listening to: “Ludacris – obviously an Atlanta based rapper. His Universal album, not bad. Not great, but not bad. He has a lot of songs about drinking. “Get Lit,” it gets me really excited for after probate and frolics.”

Celebrity Crush: “That’s a really good question. I feel like Beyoncé’s too obvious. She’s not perfect, but she’s really close. Lauryn Hill. Very attractive, but no one talks about her. She needs to come back to music. If she reads this, let her know.”

Ideal first date: “So, I’m going to go back to Georgia. There’s this place called Ray’s on the River we go to for Mother’s Day. We’d have a boat ride down the river to Ray’s. I’d ask, ‘You want to eat?’ And we’d eat. Then we’d play one-on-one basketball. And whatever happens after that, happens. But we have to play basketball.”

What the whole school should know: “I think only my roommate knows this. I’m the biggest fan of old-school kung-fu movies. I watch them all the time. Whenever I get bored. They all have the same title. [Insert dragon], [Insert 7]. Seven is my favorite number.”

Track may just be practice before starring in his own kung-fu movie.

Now that we know him a little better, we can all collectively day-dream of him asking us to play basketball…
