The Davidson Atlas of Beauty was created as a continuation of Mihaela Noroc’s project to document the vast diversity of beauty around the world through photography. Every month, Her Campus Davidson will attempt to highlight the broad spectrum of beauty represented on our campus. In a world filled with ugliness and hate, it is important to celebrate all the beautiful and good things that surround us in our day-to-day lives.

This month’s feature : Yasemin Tekgurler, c/o 2019 from Istanbul, Turkey. Among other activities, Yasemin is heavily involved in Exit 30, Rusk, and works at the Visual Arts Center.

In your own words, what does “beauty” mean to you?

“Beauty is being yourself. It’s so surprising how you can find beauty in the most peculiar things. Sometimes it is the combination of the moment that makes you see the beauty, or sometimes it is the word choice of someone you have just met that affects you with its beauty, or sometimes it is the smallest things that are reminders of home that create beauty. Beauty is this uniqueness and being open to this uniqueness. There is beauty everywhere once we are open to appreciating it.”
